We were lucky to catch up with Adriana Robinson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Adriana , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Reina Skincare is a skincare brand that I started in order to fulfill my own needs. I have always struggled with acne since the time I got into high school and it only got worse as an adult. I would roam the aisles of retail beauty counters searching for anything to help me with my acne and acne scars. Everything that I used would just make it worse and I got more and more self conscious. My self esteem was completely affected. I strayed away from retail products and started going the natural route. It all came to one moment when I decided to try Shea Butter and accidentally bought 10 pounds of Shea butter instead of 10 ounces. In order to get rid of the Shea butter, I started making products with it and my skin gradually became a lot clearer. People were asking me what I was using and how could they get some. My friends and family encouraged me to sell and it all went uphill from there.
At first, I thought of Reina Skincare as just a side hustle but the more time I spend on Reina Skincare, the more I know how valuable Reina Skincare is.
Currently, we are working on creating innovative products that use raw fruits and creating fruit extracts. Rather than just being another skincare brand, we’d like to be considered a skincare manufacturer that sells skincare at some point. Of course, we still have a long way to go!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As the CEO, have ran this business while completing law school. In May 2021, I graduated from law school Cum Laude and decided to dedicate myself to this business. In the past 3 years, with very limited resources and funding, I have been able to land Reina Skincare in major publications like Buzzfeed, People En Español, E-news online and many more. Reina Skincare was also featured in Instagram’s Latin-X influencer PR Box and recently we served Nike with Corporate Gifts.
In addition to being an entrepreneur, I would like to use my legal knowledge to serve the community and take Pro Bono cases in the future.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Currently, Reina Skincare is pivoting. We are pivoting because of the economy and inflation. Some of our main ingredients have tripled in price because of inflation. We are working on finding vendors that could either offer us a better price or finding alternatives to the ingredients that will not lose its quality and help us keep the costs down.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn sticking to a plan. Being a business owner requires you to be flexible, especially in an unstable economy. Problems will arise and you have to be ready to deal with these problems and even anticipate them before they happen so you are well prepared.
Planning anything for Reina Skincare, I have to ask myself, what’s the worst that could happen and have a Plan B, C and D.
An example of this was when I planned a photo shoot, unfortunately the equipment that was rented did not make it in time because of a delay with the carrier. At the same time, a model for the photo shoot canceled. I had to think of all alternatives to the photo shoot the day before. Everything turned out well and the photo shoot came out great!
