We were lucky to catch up with Alyssa Milani recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Alyssa, thanks for joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
Reading and writing every day helps a lot with learning the craft. Of course, I went to university to help establish my skills. But the best skill I’ve learned throughout my journey has been to keep at it and find a great group of friends/community of writers who understand you and the process.
Alyssa, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve been writing forever! I used to write little stories when I was a kid and had a few of them published in the school’s paper. It wasn’t until university did I realize that I wanted to be a writer. Law school is what I chosen upon graduating high school, and as I was there I realized that this isn’t what I want to do. I want to put the stories swimming in my head to paper and give them to the world. And I did! In 2014, I published my first anthology of all the stories I wrote in university. I did take some time off of writing when I had my son, but since 2019, I’ve published 24 books, winning awards for many of them, and have so many more to come.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I wish I had a better community of writers who understand friends. So many of them have given me amazing tips and helped with marketing ideas.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
To get all the madness out of my head and turn them into stories that will entertain and inspire others to do the same. Everything I do, I do for my love and our kiddos.
