Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Saranya Ramesh. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Saranya , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
My legacy, if I could leave one behind, would be to inspire people to start and own businesses rooted in their passions, regardless of their backgrounds. I want to encourage individuals to see that their unique circumstances or challenges shouldn’t hold them back from pursuing their dreams. It’s about finding the courage to begin and realizing that everyone deserves the opportunity to create something meaningful.
I hope to instill strength in others—the strength to start from scratch, no matter how many times they have to. Life is full of setbacks and new paths, but each new attempt brings us closer to success. It’s important to remember that chasing our goals has no expiration date unless we decide to stop ourselves. There’s always another chance to grow, improve, and achieve what we set out to do.
My message is simple: when we work for something, things eventually fall into place, no matter how long it takes. Patience and persistence are key, and I want people to trust that their efforts are never in vain. Success is a journey, and it’s our determination that ultimately shapes the outcome.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Growing up, I always loved playing with colors, which naturally drew me toward the makeup industry. While I admired the work of many artists, I never imagined pursuing makeup as a career. Back in India, I worked for an MNC company, but my journey into makeup artistry began in 2018 when my roommate, who was getting married, trusted me to do her bridal makeup. Despite having only the bare essentials, we conducted multiple trials before her big day, and the final result made it all worthwhile. That experience ignited my passion and inspired me to start a business in the makeup industry. Using savings from my full-time job, I began investing in my dream, step by step.
In 2023, I took the leap and left my corporate job to move to the U.S., where I started connecting with talented artists and fully devoted myself to makeup artistry. For me, makeup is more than a business; it is an artistic craft and a way to bring joy to people on their special occasions. My goal is to ensure that every person who sits in my chair feels confident and satisfied with their choice to work with me.
Currently, I offer both hair and makeup services in and around Austin and San Antonio, Texas. Additionally, I provide one-on-one classes for self-makeup and hairstyling. I believe makeup doesn’t always have to be about full glam. Trends have shifted, with many people now preferring to enhance their natural features rather than completely transform them. For me, makeup is a form of self-expression and artistry, and I love bringing happiness to others through my craft.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Coming from a cultural background, I first had to unlearn and relearn some of the teachings ingrained in me during childhood that were hindering my self-growth as an individual. Growing up, we are often programmed to follow beliefs imposed on us, and these become such an intrinsic part of who we are that questioning them feels like shaking the foundation of our identity. For me, one of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was the importance of others’ opinions about what I should pursue.
This belief almost held me back from starting my business for an entire year. I constantly worried about whether I would meet societal expectations or what people might say about my unconventional choice. The pressure was overwhelming, but with time, I realized that these opinions were only barriers to my personal growth and happiness.
Fast forward to now, and I can honestly say I have no regrets. Once I shifted my focus to listening to my own needs and desires rather than external judgments, I began to flourish—both in my business and as an individual. This transformation not only helped me launch my makeup artistry career but also empowered me to embrace my authentic self. It’s a liberating lesson that continues to shape the way I approach life and my work.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
There will always be ups and downs in any journey we take. One of the most challenging periods I faced in my business journey was when I moved to the U.S. in 2023. Before making the move, I was filled with questions and doubts about my survival as a business owner in a completely new environment. The thought of starting everything from scratch in an entirely different country was both daunting and overwhelming.
From the moment I arrived, I began working on my business even before fully adapting to my new surroundings. I had to navigate an unfamiliar culture, build connections from the ground up, and find ways to establish myself in a highly competitive industry. Every step felt like venturing into the unknown, and there were moments of discomfort and uncertainty that tested my resilience.
However, I’ve come to realize that these temporary challenges are what push us to grow and take the next step in life. The discomfort taught me to embrace change and adapt quickly, while the uncertainty fueled my determination to succeed. Looking back, I am incredibly glad that I took that leap of faith. It not only strengthened my business but also helped me evolve as a person.
