We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Laura Parsons. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Laura below.
Laura, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I love being a creative! I tend to get bored easily, so having a job that has a variety of tasks keeps me on my toes. I love that each day is different. At the start of the week, I work in my office and get organized. In the mornings, I typically start with a workout and then make calls, return emails, etc. Afternoons are reserved for meetings or job site visits. Sitting behind a desk for 8 hours would be very challenging for me. Everyone is different so a typical 9-5 job works for a lot of people.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I have always been drawn to creative projects. I started out with decorating my own home and friends began to compliment and ask for design advise. Back in the day when people read newspapers, my husband noticed an article about a local designer that had won an award and shared it with me. I ended up calling her and asking for a job. As fate would have it her current assistant was moving and she needed immediate help. I worked for her design company for about 10 years. I was also working with my own clients and in 2012 went out on my own.
I offer design services to clients who are remodeling, building a new home or have a small commercial project. It’s a wide spectrum of services and products. A lot of clients are overwhelmed and just don’t know where to start. They know what they like, they just don’t know how to get there. We help guide them from start to finish and make sure they don’t make any costly mistakes. We are also there to relieve some of the stress of making all the selections and decisions. There’s a lot and many clients can become stressed and overwhelmed as the weeks and months unfold. All of the selections & decisions end in a beautiful and functional space that we’re proud to be a part of!

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing the family/business in their new space that we’ve all worked so hard to create. Remodels can be especially rewarding since you can see what it used to be and how much better you’ve made the new space. It’s hard to put into words. It’s not my home or business, but yet we’re so happy that we could create a new space that is more beautiful and functional then before we stepped into it.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Standing in the new, beautiful finished space that we’ve created. It’s worth all the decisions, hurdles and long hours that it took to get there!
