Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Diamond Brown. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Diamond, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I feel that all of the campaigns I have been a part of are extremely meaningful. I have been so fortunate to work with so many artists in the beginning of their careers and one artist in particular that stands out to me is my work with the the Fenty brand. I worked with Rihanna on her first collaboration with Puma and her collaboration with Stance promoting a sock line while doing a scavenger hunt around NYC back in 2015. Fast forward to 2024, Rihanna has become a mogul and billionaire in fashion and beauty…………….
And throughout the process, I have been able to watch it all happen. From coast to coast fashion shows to the Super Bowl in 2023. It means the world to me that I’ve had a front row seat!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My professional hair journey began in New York at Paul Labrecque Salon & Spa working with Yusef Williams who is Rihanna’s personal hairstylist and Global hairstylist for Fenty hair.
I absolutely love doing fashion shows, editorial shoots and red carpet events. One of my top skills would be styling busy business execs.
What sets me apart from others is my foundation. It’s where everything clicked for me. A time in history when it was still ok to be an assistant and to be a part of salon culture and community where you learned not only how to do hair, but to really connect with your clients. That’s the part that’s missing today, community.
My latest project I’m most proud of and excited about is a music video collaboration with musician Iniko. Their team trusted me to bring their hair vision to life. When a client says they trust you it, it’s the biggest compliment you can get.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I’m extremely lucky and incredibly grateful to have the career that I have curated for myself. I love the freedom that comes with being a freelance hair stylist. I live for the variety and absolutely love the flexibility of freelancing. I get to work with mega brands like Nike and NYX cosmetics. Every new opportunity is truly a blessing, and it keeps me excited and keeps things feeling new.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish social media was available when I was first started out in the industry. All the social media platforms help connect artists to opportunities way faster and you can rely on your digital portfolio to speak for you.
