We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Allison Brito. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Allison below.
Alright, Allison thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
The decision to leave a steady and respected career in management consulting to start my own business was quite easily the biggest risk of my life. For almost 6 years, I thrived in the structured environment of consulting, with a clear career trajectory and consistent and healthy income. Yet, I was not passionate about either the work nor the clients, and the work environment began to infiltrate my ability to be a present partner and mother to my 2 year old daughter, Sofia.
It was my husband who encouraged me to think creatively about my next steps and reflect on what kind of work I’d happily do for free. The answer was clear: organizing. From color-coded to-do lists for my team at work to my meticulously labeled closets and medicine cabinets, organizing has always been my way of bringing clarity to chaos. I have a background in hospitality which reinforced this passion—I love creating spaces and experiences that bring people comfort and happiness. It isn’t just about tidying up; it is about empowering people to reclaim their spaces and lives.
The only way for me to justify this leap was if it was a real business, not just a passion project, or time-consuming hobby. I leaned on my business school and consulting experience, equipped with skills in marketing, pricing, negotiations, and customer acquisition. With that foundation, I launched ORG NYC, a premium organizing service for residential and corporate clients.
In six months, ORG NYC has served over a dozen clients, transforming spaces with care. From building a user-friendly website to implementing search engine strategies, I’ve used every tool in my arsenal. Today, ORG NYC is a two-person operation, and the real-time feedback we get from our clients (from tears to a 14 year old girl jumping up and down when we organized her bedroom) reaffirms my decision.
The journey hasn’t been without challenges. The days are long, very physica, and responsibilities are endless. But the freedom to shape my path and the joy of helping clients outweigh any obstacles. Looking ahead, I plan to expand ORG NYC beyond New York, bringing our exceptional hospitality and professional approach to clients nationwide.
Taking the risk to leave consulting and start ORG NYC was daunting yet rewarding. It has taught me to trust my instincts, embrace uncertainty, and pursue my vision. While the journey is just beginning, I’m proud to have built a business that reflects my skills, passion, and values and feel as though I am finally setting a good example for my daughter of what it means to hustle, but also help people.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Allison Flanders Brito, founder of ORG NYC, a premium home and office organizing company based in New York City. I’m most proud of combining my skills in strategy, hospitality, and operations to build a brand that embodies these values. As we grow, I’m excited to expand our reach, bringing our thoughtful, high-touch, organizing services to clients nationwide.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I am a somewhat of a Luddite, I like to write hand-written notes to the clients after the project is complete. And I also check-in with them about how their spaces are maintained. I also let them know that at any moment, they can reach out to me if they have questions about where something is in their home or office.

Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
I self-funded ORG NYC, but I approached it with the rigor of a venture-backed startup. Drawing on my business and consulting background, I spent the first month developing a comprehensive plan that included a competitive landscape analysis, pricing strategies, a 5-year roadmap with financial projections, and a phased customer acquisition strategy. To test its viability, I treated the process like a private equity pitch. I presented the plan—complete with slides projected on a screen—to friends, former colleagues, and family, inviting their feedback and tough questions.
While I didn’t raise external funds, this exercise helped me refine the business model and ensured I was accountable to my own capital as if it belonged to an investor. Every decision I make for ORG NYC reflects this disciplined approach, balancing strategic growth with financial responsibility.
