We were lucky to catch up with Miche’Lynne McCarter-Bell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Miche’Lynne thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about the early days of establishing your own firm. What can you share?
After years of working in corporate, I decided to step out on faith and start my own HR firm. I decided to start my firm because HR was misunderstood and often misrepresented in organizations and I wanted to play a part in redesigning the narrative. While HR handles, hiring, firing, compliance, and development, we also play a huge part in helping the organization and team grow.
This is how we came up with the name HR GROWTH SPURTS an MKK Bell Consulting Company. We help organizations grow their team, leaders, and profit!
Starting anything from the ground up is work ( a lot of work). My best advice is to start where you are, use what you have, and invest in learning. I went into this gaining clients through relationships that were formed when working for other organizations. The people I had worked with, helped, and mentored, reached out to me when they learned that I started my own organization.
So always remember even if you are working for someone right now …… RELATIONSHIPS matter!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve been in HR for years. I started off as a Recruiting and Internship Manager at the University of Houston, and then moved on to a Generalist role and HR Leadership role, leading a team of more than 25 employees servicing over 20k employees.
HR Growth Spurts provides consulting services in the area of Recruitment, OD, and HR compliance. We are not your typical HR consulting firm “call center”. We work hand and hand with our organizations and act as their HR department.
We also have several excellent Leadership programs for Executive and mid-level management teams. These services include 1 on 1 coaching and group retreats.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Resilience. wow…that’s something you will need in order to be successful in this field. The one thing that corporate taught me was understanding my worth and n0t downplaying it when others don’t value it. This has been so instrumental to me in my journey as a CEO and teaching this concept to my team.
We work with EXCELLENT organizations that truly want to grow and invest in their people. When we have been faced with rude clients or clients who have an opposite agenda, we quickly revisit the relationship as we know that long term they won’t see the results they are looking for which doesn’t of course produce growth.
We are very serious about our mission of GROWTH and if we see a leader who is ok with being instrumental to producing “weeds” we try to coach them to success. Unfortunately, however rare, we have seen where leaders have gotten in the way of their own growth and REFUSE to do the things necessary to change the trajectory of their organization and people.


How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
During COVID we had to pivot and make sure we protected the lives of our clients and their staff. HR is on the front lines of compliance and safety and with COVID being new we had to jump in and learn new guidelines for leave, safety protocol, and much more. HR is also the strategic partners for the organization and while in the midst of chaos and confusion, we had to become both strategic and tactical.
