Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bryce McNally. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Bryce, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
As a tattoo artist it is common for people to romanticize the life style. the first thing they think is “I bet they make a killing” and while this can sometimes be true its not always the case. Any artist starting out no matter who you are or what you are doing you’re going to struggle. when I started it was no different, for the first year of my career I almost lost my car and living arrangements. I quickly learned how to survive on almost nothing, but such is the life of an artist. Over the next few years things slowly got better as my artwork improved and became an established artist. I realized the hard I worked and the more time I put into my craft the easier my life would be and the more successful I would become. fast forward almost a decade into my career and I am living comfortable, my kids have everything they could possibly need and we can afford to do things that most families whether artist or not can’t.
Bryce, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi, I’m Bryce McNally and I’m a tattoo artist located at Dixie Station Tattoo in Plant City Florida. I first became interested in tattooing and the early age of 8 and started experimenting if you will at the age of 13. over the next several years I worked on my art work with the dream of becoming a tattoo artist. after years of hardship and dedication and thanks to the love and support of not only my wife and kids but my amazing clients and co-workers I have been literally living my dream job for almost a decade. I specialize in fine line and color tattoos but I tattoo everything. As an artist I pride myself in taking my time with each and every client that walks into the studio to insure they are getting the best possible tattoo for them. I strive to make every tattoo I do to be a personal and true to you as I can. when you walk into our studio you are walking into our home which we want you to feel is yours as well. If you are looking for a new artist please allow me the opportunity to be that person. every consultation is free and one on one, deposits are only required if you decide to move on with the tattooing process and vary based on design and placement.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I get asked this question often and I always seem to word it differently. The best way for society to support artists is to get out there and buy their stuff! If you want to support local upcoming bands go to the shows pick up a band shirt, find a local artist and buy a painting or commission them for a custom painting. stop buying things that are mass produced, everyone has the same live laugh love picture hanging in the kitchen. Go get something that no one else has seen. Now as for tattoo artists DO YOUR RESEARCH! Go in and talk with an artist, ask questions and trust the process. Good tattoos take time and can be expensive. Just remember your paying for the experience of a great tattoo.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding thing about being a tattoo artist is the look on a persons face after they get a new tattoo. It doesn’t matter why they get it, just seeing there reaction when they know that a piece of who they are is now visible on their skin. when some one has happy tears or watching them walk out with the biggest smile they’ve had in months is why I do what I do. My clients joy and happiness they get from what I can provide is the best feeling I could ask for
