Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Briana Sandbakken. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Briana, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
In photography, the moments that usually are captured are posed and sometimes, forced. Especially with children those manufactured smiles aren’t what we, as parents, truly desire. When I photograph my clients I engage them in conversation asking them silly questions and telling them funny stories to really bring out each unique nuance. The feedback I get from the parents is always so positive when they see the real expressions as well as the high-end quality of the portraits.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I have been doing professional photography for about 5 years and in that time I have been enjoying capturing all kinds of moments from weddings to newborns. For many of these years I have been also hosting portrait sessions in my garage which aim to highlight the individual I am working with and their personality. From these portrait sessions, I was inspired to find a way to make my studio mobile and offer these portraits country wide. The Little Travelin’ Studio was created and I really love that I can take my skill of connecting with children and bringing out each cute quirk to families all over! Traveling to your hometown makes these high-end, timeless and fun portraits easily accessible to all!

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I love the idea of traveling and building clientele not just in my hometown but all over the country. Having many clients that are sprinkled all around, it really opens up opportunities to grow my brand. I love every time I have a client walk away from my session voicing relief after seeing their child smile real smiles and actually ENJOYING their time. The feedback I get is how painless and fun their time was and after their photos are delivered they’re blown away with the quality they received.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I got so excited initially to launch this traveling branch of my business and quickly realized that the best way to spread awareness is by word-of-mouth. Instead of running ads on Instagram or Facebook, I decided to stick with advertising through people that I know locally in the town I want to travel to.
