We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jon Freeze a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jon , thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My goal/ mission is to simply create and give the people something they can create and feel something from the photographs. Whether that is portrait work or candid photographs, I simply want to invoke emotion into the person that sees my work.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Well my name is Jon Freeze, I started in photography in 2020 with the sole intention to capture moments in my life so they could survive past however long I’m on earth. Very quickly it became the love of my creative life, going from candid portraits to concerts to now projects of my own that have been the pleasure of my life to share with the public. The thing that I believe sets me apart from others is my willingness to go adjust in a moments notice and adapt to different situations; Lighting, Bad weather, or unexpected wardrobe changes to make the most out of the shoot and make it look appealing. What I am most proud of is recently having my debut Photography gallery, You Live Here Now, that was a big milestone for me personally and it meant a lot to me to have people show up and check out my work in physical form. The main thing I want people to know/feel from work is the feeling of nostalgia and realness from the portraits that I share and dive face first into those feelings cause I believe these are the feelings that inspire me to create
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
My reputation was built largely through word of mouth and my ability to authentically engage with people in a way that helps both of us grow. And of course, I wouldn’t have been able to get this far without my models and collaborators going to bat for me and recommending me to others. Those things played a huge role in getting my name out there.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Being accessible, kind, and willing to work within the means of the people you are providing service to is the biggest key to growing a loyal clientele. I am lucky to be able to help people see themselves in a different light, and that is an experience that people often want others to share in, leading to very organic growth.
