We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Shea. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with SHEA below.
SHEA, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
My EP In Bloom has been my most meaningful project. This project was 2 years in the making and it meant so much for me to complete it and see my hard work come to fruition. It’s my most personal project to date. In this EP I was able to keep a diary of how I have grown in my relationship with myself, with friends, family, and romantically. It’s like my diary of those two years and I was just able to let everything out.

SHEA, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve always sang and wrote stories when I was kid, but my journey of releasing my own music started during covid. I was so burnt out from my job and depressed about where I was in life, and I turned to songwriting. I wrote the first song I released, Young, about reminiscing on a simpler time in life before I had to know how to adult. I shared it with a friend who hooked me up with a producer to record the song with and the rest was history. I haven’t stopped writing since. I’ve always sang, but I am most proud of my pen. I feel like I’m sharpening my skills with each new song and release. It’s the most enjoyable part of the process for me because I get a chance to turn whatever I am going through into something meaningful that helps me and hopefully others.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Honestly the more I put myself out there in the real world, the faster my social media grew. I was performing every chance I got to put my name out there and my social media following has steadily grown as a result. I also think sharing your craft and your personality online helps bring people to you.

Have you ever had to pivot?
During that covid year, I was extremely depressed and did not know how I was going to turn it around. I had finally chosen to seek help and went to my first therapy session. I come from a Haitian household where you don’t talk about your business outside the house. I never really considered therapy as an option and now I would advocate that anyone can benefit from therapy and should seek it out if they have access to it. If I never went, I honestly don’t know that I would have ever been motivated enough to pursue music the way that I am today.
