We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jennapple a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jennapple, appreciate you joining us today. So, one thing many business owners consider is donating a percentage of sales or profits to an organization or cause. We’d love to hear your thoughts and the story behind how and why you chose the cause or organization you donate to.
Well , actually , I am starting my own non-profit to raise money for orphans of domestic violence. We are hoping to launch in May and start raising scholarship money for my “little apples”
Jennapple, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am an artist. I make music art and film. Currently part of this is launching my own fragrance business as part of my merch. jéanaè will be launched end Jan/ early Feb.
I sell art as well as tshirts to represent my brand as well.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I had a Dream to make perfume “one day”…. And a friend told me that today is the day. He said why wait? I’ll buy the glass!
When I mentioned it to another friend that I might consider doing it, he jumped in and sent me a few hundred dollars as well.
This is how my fragrance business was initially funded, and I have also been investing a little bit, but mostly it was funded by them And another friend who pitched in.
I had to acquire a vintage cologne that isn’t Sold anymore, so you have to buy used amounts up on the Internet at an extreme price. I also had to buy several oils to create what I like and solvent to make it into the perfume. The glass will have handpainted art on it as well.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
As far as social media presence, I’ve been working on my social media for probably about 15 years. It’s been a slow steady climb, and sometimes it felt like a full-time job.
It’s important to stay consistent, to post frequently, but not too frequently, and to engage with your people. Engagement is what really makes it happen.
I also spent time rebranding my social media so that it looked a little bit more professional for my business.
