Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alonzo Lee. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alonzo, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
This is a Great Question I do wish I could have started earlier than I did. I moved to Houston from Dallas as a technology major at the University of Houston but then as I started to develop relationships with people in Houston with many different backgrounds I began to discover new interests that were better suited for my skill set. After almost 2 years of taking Tech classes, I quickly realized I had no desire to do this for the rest of my life, I was having way more fun helping friends create business designs and planning ways to implement them. I even used to do some of my friends’ Graphic design Homework for fun. This is where I realized that my true passion was being creative so I switched my major to Advertising and never looked back. Soon After I switch majors I began working as a leasing consultant working where I gained experience with different forms of marketing and Advertising as well as Sales strategies. I was gaining experience in every avenue possible to use for myself one day I just wasn’t sure exactly what it would be yet. From 2018 through most of 2019 I secretly worked on Clothing brand ideas in my head but I never released anything. I wish I would’ve started sooner so that I could have had more time to grow and learn — but in 2019 when I knew I wanted to make a clothing brand.
January of 2020 right before the pandemic hit is when I launched Hunterhill. Starting sooner would have provided me with more time to grow. I spent a lot of time thinking about how I would start but looking back I was just afraid to put something out. I believe a lot of people do this. It can seem very frightening to share your work with the world but I have discovered that the best thing you can do for yourself is to release the Art, learn from the experience, and move forward. So if I could give advice to anyone, including my younger self I would say “ Just Start!”

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I got started in the industry when I moved to Houston and became an advertising major and made friends with people who had business and clothing brands of their own. I soon began working on projects for different brands helped me understand how to develop my own. The relationships I had with the business owners helped me get started as well. Without their help, I would not be where I am today. Over time I have developed a very wide range of skills that include but aren’t limited to these things: Creative direction, graphic design, marketing strategies, event planning, content creation, sales strategies, social media expert, eCommerce.
What sets me apart from others in this industry is my attention to detail and ability to provide superior customer service leaving every consumer with a uniquely positive experience. Also, My unique approach to marketing and content creation has become so distant that it is recognizable on any project I am a part of.
What I am most proud of in terms of my clothing brand Hunterhill is the growth the brand has gone through since I started it. I have shipped products to over 25 US states!
For anyone that may be interested in knowing more about me, I will say that I am a very grounded and loyal person. Relationships are more valuable than money to me so I am always striving to be a person who has good business practices and someone who is always reassuring a certain level of trust no matter what the relationship is.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Being able to create freely is so satisfying. I believe every creative’s goal is to create something that doesn’t yet exist and the journey to make that happen is very satisfying yet addictive. To see things go from an idea to something tangible and have others be able to interact with the things you create while potentially even being able to make a living off of the things you would do for free is an amazon feeling. There are not many career fields that offer this same feeling.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Well, I say buying locally, and supporting any small businesses is a great first step to supporting local creatives. To take things further I think we can all do a better job utilizing the talents and service of the people closest to us. There are so many people in our communities who are talented lesser-known artists, photographers, Designers, etc. and I think we should do a better job of utilizing these people around us so that we can all GROW TOGETHER! The more growth in the creative ecosystem, the better it is for everyone!
