Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Steven Haddad. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Steven, appreciate you joining us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I absolutely wish I had started photography sooner, but it was always something that I never thought I was creative enough to do. I was going back to school on a medical path, and I took a photography class as an elective because I figured I always wanted to try it, and I was gonna need a solid hobby that could take my mind off school stresses…and I instantly fell in love. I have always said that throughout my life I have been passionate about a lot of things, but photography is an obsession. I was working as a professional piercer at the time, and the people that would let me photograph them were my friends and clients…so that’s how I got into photographing tattooed models.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I have been a photographer for about 8 years at this point, and I think I’m known most for fun angles and bright colors in my photos. Everything started for me when I took a photography class, and just never wanted to look at the world outside a lens. I have photographed everything from portraits, to cars, to corporate events…etc., but my favorite is portraits for sure. I like being creative along side someone else that can give me their opinion, or tell me I’m absolutely insane, but they “trust the vision”. I think one of the things that sets me apart from others is that I just really like to smile, laugh, and have fun when I’m shooting…and I’ve been known to climb on things to get the shots I want, and I imagine it’s pretty entertaining to watch. I am really most proud of the incredible people I’ve had the privilege to work alongside, and the amazing opportunities, like this one, I’ve gotten to experience all because of my art.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is when I send someone their photos after we’ve shot and they are just ecstatic about what we created together. It really warms my heart to know that I could help to make someone happy and smile.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
The biggest resource I wish I was brave enough to tap into earlier, is my peers. I wish I had realized way earlier that asking for help from other people doing what I’m doing, is completely amazing. I absolutely love when I get random DM’s or just general questions about how I can help someone in this shared obsession of ours.
