We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Anastasiya Tkachenko. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Anastasiya below.
Alright, Anastasiya thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I first transitioned into Copywriting when I realized I could combine my two major obsessions: writing and people. I worked in the world of nonprofits for 10+ years, starting as early as 14 years old, and by the time I got to my senior year of college, I craved a career centered around creativity rather than a field that was primarily black and white. As I sank my teeth into learning more about Copywriting and Digital Marketing, I felt like I finally found my place where I could let my imagination soar while simultaneously helping business owners, creative entrepreneurs, and change-makers connect to their dream audience. What I love most about my work is that every, and any, business would benefit from utilizing a Copywriter’s skills to boost their business, but most don’t even know we exist or what our role exactly is. I feel like I have a superpower that I keep hidden until I want to expose it or use it. And the best part? It really can save a business.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hello there! My name is Anastasiya and I am the Head Copywriter and Creator of anachenko copywriting studio and The Sonder, my weekly newsletter. Work and play go hand in hand; one cannot thrive without the other, which was the driving force behind the creation of my copywriting studio alongside my newsletter. I realized that wonderful, creative business owners spend so much of their time dedicating themselves to their work, but too often, they get burnt out, overwhelmed with the day-to-day, and over time lose momentum. I am equally interested in supporting business owners with their vision on and off the clock, which is why I love my work so much. By day, I get to work with clever, visionary business owners, creative entrepreneurs, incredible educators, and more to build systems that’ll connect them to their dream audience, and by night, I write The Sonder, my newsletter that is written directly from me to people around the world who need a reminder to keep moving forward.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
A story I’m particularly proud of is when I secured my first client (my dream client, in fact), and constantly reminds me of the power of asking, informing, and creatively showcasing right off the bat. When I created my portfolio to display my expertise to potential clients at the end of my course learning all things copywriting from 2022 Marketer of The Year Alex Cattoni, I spotlighted my portfolio on a dream client that I’ve always wanted to work with. As soon as I wrapped up the final details of my portfolio, I decided to literally shoot for the stars and email them directly with a juicy email that would grab their attention and convince them to give me the opportunity to work with them. I worked hard on the email to customize it, format it, and write it in a way that was smooth, easy to read, and enticed them to keep reading until the end. Once I felt like it conveyed my passion and excitement well enough, I held my breath and pressed send. I immediately closed my computer and let it go – knowing, very well, that there was a high chance that I’d never hear a response. 30 minutes later I got an email from their assistant asking to set up a call to talk about my ideas for their business. Within 24 hours, I was on Zoom with that dream client…an experience I never thought I would have. And the best part? They said they typically don’t enjoy reading long emails, but they couldn’t stop reading mine and read it to the end. My response? “That’s exactly how I’d write your emails to your audience.” And the word they used to describe it? Juicy. Now that’s what I’m talking about. This is all to say that the worst thing that someone could say is no. But, if you’re reaching out to inform, educate, and showcase what you can do in a way that’s interactive, interesting, and easy, then why wouldn’t they want to work with you?
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Trust your gut and try it out. What I had to unlearn was constantly second-guessing myself because of other people’s self-doubt in themselves. When the people around you are unwilling to follow their gut and courageously try things out, that naturally can bleed onto you and infiltrate your self-confidence. I had to work extra hard to wipe my mind clean of other people’s ideas, thoughts, insecurities, doubts, etc., in order to hear my own voice and intuition.
