Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cynthia Luttman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Cynthia, appreciate you joining us today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later
If I could ride the Hot Tub Time Machine back I would definitely jump into my cookie business sooner! My first passion and career, veterinary medicine and horse breeding, was science based. I was always drawn to creative outlets but time to explore them was very limited. Horses don’t know you’re tired, it’s a holiday or the weather is terrible.
It wasn’t until I retired from my equine business that I was able to pursue outside interests. I wonder how my skills could have improved if I had started designing and decorating cookies earlier. I’m so glad I took the leap to put myself out there and let others see my work. I’d definitely start earlier if I could!

Cynthia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started Grammy’s Goodies as a creative outlet and to share affordable and tasty cookies with people for special occasions or just for fun.
I started out doing cookies for family and friends and they all encouraged me to branch out as a small business.
I strive to produce attractive cookies but they HAVE to taste good or why do it? I try to stand out by offering a variety of flavors and custom themes.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
After 25 years of being an equine veterinarian and horse breeder I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that caused extreme physical fatigue and joint pain. The decision eventually came to step back from the physically demanding pursuits and move on to something else. It was a gut wrenching decision but faith brought me through to the other side .

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
In 1998 when I was a new graduate from Veterinary Medicine my father had a stroke which robbed him of his speech and motor control of his right side. It was a shock and completely changed the trajectory of my life. 8 years later I lost my mother suddenly and my father’s daily needs fell to me. The next fourteen years of caring for him were challenging and full of ups and downs but were a privilege that taught me I can do anything.
