We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Wtdwannahear Podcast a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Wtdwannahear, appreciate you joining us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
So it all started with Reef Major being my(Kenyatta) barber. Reef and I would always have life altering conversations that would literally leave us in awe by the end of the haircut. We’ve experienced that same feeling of awe about 4 times. When it happened a fifth time, I said “Nah, we can’t be the only ones hearing this”. Reef and I both had thoughts of starting our own individual podcast’s in the past but neither one of us ever acted on it. After the fifth time being left in awe, we both stated that we should start a podcast together. I (Kenyatta) was being dead serious. Reef didn’t 100% think I was blowing smoke, but he wasn’t 100% on board either at the time. 2 days went by and I gave Reef a call and told him I was not playing about starting the podcast and that we need to act on it immediately! Reef felt the energy through the phone and we were able to lock in. Reef and I are firm believers in everything happening for a reason and divine timing. Pooling our resources together, we both knew our guy DHaze! DHaze is a literal one stop shop! DHaze is a music producer, a music artist, a videographer, a photographer and he is also a chef!! It was just our luck that DHaze also built a studio inside of his home! Within a week or 2 we shot our first podcast right in that studio and the rest is history !! Reef and I are actually celebrating our 50th episode live this Saturday (12/14/24) in Brooklyn !

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
The What they don’t wanna hear podcast (Wtdwannahear) are co-hosted by the dynamic duo of YattaRacks and ReefMajor. Both host are serial entrepreneurs and business owners. Reef is a top barber in the state of New York, he has his own suite located on 710 Franklin ave, Franklin square,Ny and he also has his own hair care line LookMajorLLC! Yattaracks is a Pop Artist and owns a juicing business with his Grandmother called Rhythm’NJuice! Both Reef and Yatta understand the daily hustle and grind that is REQUIRED to elevate in not just business but in LIFE !! Reefmajor’s hair care line offers amazing hair growth oils that leaves your hair looking healthy and smelling good! It also promotes hair growth. LookmajorLLC also offers a beard oil and beard balm to get your balm looking Major literally ! If you’ve been experiencing dry and unhealthy hair you need to add Lookmajor oils in your life. Rhythm’njuice now is a 100% fresh juicing business. My Grandmother and I juice fresh fruits for the finest juice in the city. We believe health is wealth and we want to #Makebeinghealthycool ! Yattaracks the Pop Artist now is an artist who enjoys making a GREAT song. Yattaracks creates exciting, vibrant music. Yattaracks wants to activate that “I love this song” feeling from the listeners. Give him a listen on all platforms @Yattaracks. Now shifting our focus back to the actual podcast, we created Wtdwannahear to push the culture forward ! Reef and I are both in our mid 20’s which someone would still consider young, but we both feel like we have our own unique wisdom that almost makes us older in a sense. We want people to watch our pod and have a good laugh while enjoying a great conversation. We may touch upon a topic you were just talking about with a group of friends, we might talk about a topic that you were having internal dialogue with yourself about or it might just be a very enlightening moment that may have changed your life for the better. At the end of the day, most times the things people don’t want to hear is the thing that they needed to hear. A lot of people say that the chemistry Reef and I have is what sets us apart and what keeps them intrigued with watching. Another goal of ours is to connect the city as well. We’ve had a bunch of guest come on the platform ranging from music artists like the Harlem Princess Vina Love, 2300, we’ve had models, we’ve had entrepreneurs, we’ve had videographers from 5th ave to V lens to even SoDan, we’ve had instagram comedian Pyrex and famous Mike, we’ve even had a chef ! Connecting different people and creating a platform where they can express themselves through great conversation is what makes us proud and keeps us going. We wanna see everyone win and like we said WE WANT TO PUSH THE CULTURE FORWARD BY ANY MEANS!

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Reef and I are a team, a damn good one at that! Our advice would be to have those tough conversations! You have to have those, the communication has to happen, it has to be there. Also to maintain that high morale you have to always be reliable and have to always be able to be counted on. YOU HAVE TO SHOW UP FOR YOUR TEAM !! That is something Reef and I do very well. We show up for each other and we communicate. He knows I have his back and I know he has mine.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Consistency. That’s it that’s all. Just remain consistent. Keep the product coming, the people will follow. But they can’t follow something that is not there. Keep posting on your page, keep tagging your business page on your main page. Keep shouting it out , keep posting. It might take 1 month , it might 1 year , it could take 5 years. One thing you cannot afford to do is not be consistent. Show up for your business and post that content relentlessly!
