We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lama Abu-Amara. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lama below.
Lama, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One thing we always find fascinating is how differently entrepreneurs think about revenue growth and cost reductions – both can be powerful ways to improve profitability. What do you spend more of your time and energy on?
I focus more of my time and energy on growing revenue. For me, the key to building a sustainable and thriving business lies in creating value and offering exceptional experiences that clients are willing to invest in. While keeping costs manageable is important, I believe that revenue growth drives long-term success and allows me to continuously improve the quality of my work and client offerings.
In the past year, for example, I’ve introduced new services like gift certificates and expanded product options like albums and wall art, which have both increased revenue and enhanced client satisfaction. I’ve also attended community events and tradeshows to connect with more families, and these efforts have translated into new bookings and referrals.
Cutting costs can only take a business so far, but focusing on revenue growth opens up opportunities to reinvest in areas like better equipment, marketing, and creating a beautiful studio space—which I’m excited to open next year. These investments not only help grow the business but also ensure that every client feels they’re receiving exceptional value.
Ultimately, I see revenue growth and cost management as complementary. By growing revenue, I have the resources to be strategic about costs, focusing on what truly enhances the client experience while ensuring the business remains profitable.

Lama, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Lama Abu-Amara, and I’m the photographer behind Lama’s Littles, a newborn photography business dedicated to capturing the delicate, fleeting moments of a baby’s earliest days. My journey into this field began with a love for photography and a fascination with the innocence and beauty of newborns. After experiencing the profound joy that comes with welcoming a new life into the world, I knew I wanted to create something that would allow families to relive these cherished memories forever.
At Lama’s Littles, I provide personalized newborn and family photography sessions that result in timeless portraits. My services include custom-tailored photo sessions, fine art prints, and beautifully crafted albums. I also offer gift certificates, making it possible for loved ones to share the gift of lasting memories. My goal is to make each session as stress-free and enjoyable as possible, with safety, comfort, and a family-friendly environment as top priorities.
One of the unique problems I solve for my clients is helping them preserve a moment in time that passes all too quickly. Many parents are overwhelmed during the newborn stage, and I take pride in creating an experience where they can relax and simply enjoy their baby while I take care of every detail. What sets me apart is not only my technical skills but also my ability to connect with families on a personal level, ensuring that each session feels meaningful and memorable.
This year, I’ve had the honor of photographing over 100 babies, which has been a humbling and rewarding experience. I’m also proud to share that Lama’s Littles is growing—next year, I plan to open a studio to provide an even more seamless and elevated experience for my clients. On a personal note, the brand itself is also welcoming a new baby, making this an incredibly special time.
What I’m most proud of is the trust my clients place in me to capture these once-in-a-lifetime moments. It’s an honor to play a part in their family’s story, and I strive to deliver not just photos but heirlooms that will be cherished for generations.
For anyone considering working with Lama’s Littles, I want them to know that this isn’t just a photography service—it’s a celebration of family, love, and new beginnings. Every session is designed to reflect the uniqueness of your story, and I am dedicated to making the process as joyful and rewarding as the photos themselves.

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
My newborn photography business, Lama’s Littles, began as a side hustle driven by my passion for capturing the beauty of new life and creating memories for families. I started small, working with a few clients while honing my craft and learning the ins and outs of the industry.
It officially turned into a full-time career in July of this year, and it’s been an incredible journey. The turning point came when referrals started to pour in, a testament to the trust and satisfaction of my clients. At the same time, my ad strategy finally hit its stride, delivering an ROI of over 2000%. This combination of word-of-mouth and effective marketing brought in more clients than I had ever imagined.
Another key milestone was introducing physical products, such as albums and prints, which allowed me to upsell to my clients while providing them with keepsakes they can treasure for life. It added a new layer of value to my services and deepened the connection clients felt with my work.
One of the most important factors in scaling the business has been continually educating myself. Whether it’s mastering new photography techniques, improving my editing workflow, or learning about client care, this commitment to growth has resulted in better photos and more clients.
Looking back, what started as a small passion project has grown into something I am deeply proud of. Seeing it evolve into a full-time career has been both humbling and exciting, and I can’t wait to see where it goes from here.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I believe my reputation within the newborn photography market has been built on a foundation of trust, consistency, and a deep commitment to my clients’ experiences. Several key factors have contributed to this:
1. Delivering Exceptional Quality:
From the very beginning, I’ve focused on providing high-quality, timeless photos that capture the unique beauty of each newborn and their family. Attention to detail, from safe posing to flawless editing, ensures that every gallery exceeds my clients’ expectations.
2. Building Trust Through Safety and Care:
Newborn photography requires a special kind of responsibility. Parents entrust me with their most precious little ones, and I make it a priority to ensure the environment is safe, calm, and baby-friendly. Knowing their baby is in gentle, experienced hands puts parents at ease and leaves a lasting impression.
3. Personalized Client Experience:
Every session at Lama’s Littles is tailored to the family’s needs and preferences. I take the time to get to know my clients and their vision for their photos. This personalized approach helps create a connection and makes families feel valued.
4. Word-of-Mouth Referrals:
Nothing builds a reputation faster than happy clients sharing their experiences. Many of my bookings come from referrals, which I take as the highest compliment. When families recommend my work to their loved ones, it’s a reflection of the trust and satisfaction they’ve felt.
5. Strategic Marketing and Consistency:
A successful ad strategy also played a role in helping me reach a broader audience, but consistency in my brand message and portfolio has kept clients engaged. By staying true to my aesthetic and values, I’ve established a recognizable presence in the market.
What’s helped the most, though, is simply caring about every family I work with. This isn’t just a business for me—it’s a chance to create lasting memories for people during one of the most special times in their lives. That level of care resonates, and I think it’s what keeps clients coming back and spreading the word.
