Today we’d like to introduce you to August Broos
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always been an artist. I remember as kid I was always playing in the woods and using my imagination to create worlds I could act in. I always performed for my stuffed animals and of course my family. When I startet theater, I exactly knew that this is my passion. I had to learn to trust my gut instinct and go with what feels good, in terms of what I wanted to do.
To find that trust within me, I had to work on my mental health first. I had to strip down old habits and ideas some other people put into my head – and still there’s much more to recover. I know that my genuine interest and openness to discovering what’s behind my personal actions, always went hand in hand with my job as an actor. You have to know where things are coming from and how some habits manifested. To be curious lead me to create art in the first place and it still does. I just think it’s one of the most beautiful jobs in our society. Show them a mirror and smash it sometimes in front of their eyes.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
A very close girlfriend of mine and me always compare our lives as a hike. There’s Ups and Downs. Sometimes you get to experience the most magnificent views and sometimes the clouds blur your vision. With everything in my life going on, I’ve mostly felt truth to my path. I know it won’t be linear and I hope it won’t be in the future. Without the lows you can’t value the highs properly. And even on a struggling point, I always get back to this picture of being on a hike and that this exact moment is the lowest point of this particular stage. Professionally speaking I had some of struggles. Money for sure. International opportunities I couldn’t take. Creative blocks. But all of them I overcame and continued to climb up that mountain again.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I believe in following what my true passion is: creating art. My number one profession will always be acting, either for film, TV or theater. Something that makes me stand out is definitely my work ethic. I’m working hard and way of the 9 – 5 grid. I don’t have family in the business who could’ve lead me the way. I had to do the weeding myself to see the structures of the industry.
I love being multifaceted and create unapologetically. With my first Album WHEELS coming out soon I followed another passion of mine, the music. I started making music back in 2020 for myself. Over the time the sounds got clearer and the idea, what I wanted to do with it, grew up. This particular project is a perfect beginning of something, I won’t ever stop. I’ve always loved to listen to entire albums as they were made to perceive. I love to educate listeners with important topics they could benefit from. With my first concept album WHEELS (soundbath) I did something very unusual. An instrumental concept album that followed the energy centers of humans throughout sounds and vibrations of healing. This was very experimental and I’m so happy seeing, that it gets perceived so well. The following act 2 WHEELS will still hold onto the same concept but with a different approach and more voice.
I’m always professional, never late and constantly seeking new opportunities. I think if you’re not privileged enough in this industry you have to double the effort. People always tell me this is a strength of mine.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
That I genuinely love being weird. I love situations where I can zone out and do something unexpected and different. I believe it helps my process of creating characters and art in general. I always tell people to not be afraid of being different and to embrace the weirdness. My inner circle knows that too well and I think it’s one of many reasons they love me, ha!
I love playing weird roles and I’m always open to unconventional ideas.
