Today we’d like to introduce you to Kat Lieu

Hi Kat, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.

Something inside of me clicked when I watched my father breathe his final breath, and with that one exhale, all his hopes, dreams, and wishes became air. After reflecting, I decided moving forward, every day I would live with purpose in mind, and every dream and goal I fulfilled would be a part of my late father’s legacy.

I was a doctor of physical therapy for over 13 years, a stable career my parents had chosen for me. But my father was now gone and my mother no longer cared about what I did for a living, so I took a leap of faith, ended my healthcare career, and became a full-time food writer and cookbook author. I also moonlight as an activist and a founder of the largest online Asian baking group.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

It has been relatively smooth, and I thank all the people who have lifted me or amplified my voice, as well as all the people who love and support my work. There are, of course, some struggles. I do believe I’m underpaid as a content creator and if I were a white man, I’d probably have my own big media food show by now.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?

Presently, I’m known for my best-selling cookbooks, Modern Asian Baking at Home and Modern Asian Kitchen. I specialize in writing easy-to-follow cookbooks and recipes. I thank my background as a teacher and physical therapist for being able to create universally relatable and easy-to-follow recipes.

I am very proud of my family. They are my rock. And what sets me apart from others, well, I’m really funny when you get to know me, and I am super creative, especially when it comes to developing recipes. I can be the life of the party, or be equally content writing or developing recipes at home, or playing Stardew Valley, Valorant, Fort Nite, or Overwatch.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?

I used to write rom-coms and, um, also erotica under a pen name, LOL! And sold 50,000 plus digital copies of my self-published work on Amazon Kindle.
