Today we’d like to introduce you to Nakota Garza
Hi Nakota, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been a visual artist as long as I can remember. Probably the earliest memory I have of doing art was with my mom when I was 4 or 5 years old. She was always so enthusiastic about my artistic creations, it was a great confidence boost that probably started this whole career.
I started my tattooing journey at 18 though. Traveled the world with it and now I’m nestled comfortably in Seattle, Washington
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s definitely not always been a smooth ride, but it’s always been worth it.
When it comes to tattooing, or probably any self employment, there’s a never ending amount of struggles along the way. When I started tattooing just being a woman in the industry was a struggle. An enormous amount of progress has been made in the last 16 years though.
Now the biggest struggle is in marketing and keeping up with style changes.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Currently I’ve been focusing more on floral realism works with nouveau undertones. I enjoy working with an array of styles, but it’s always a good day when I see I have a flower project booked in.
Another subject matter that is extremely exciting for me to tattoo would be any form of sacred hearts.
Shoot, you mix flowers and sacred hearts in a project and you’re my new favorite client.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Tattooing is constantly in shift. In 5-10 years? I see a lot more social media marketing. More marketing than tattoos. Also, a lot of “micro” tattoo cover ups.
