Today we’d like to introduce you to Latrell Floyd
Hi Latrell, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story begins back in 2018 when I was in grad school and started my first blog, “Prosper Water and Blogs”. I wanted to start my “journey” as simple as I could since I was a fulltime grad student. I originally started it off by doing movie reviews, music video breakdowns, and did moments in the entertainment industry a lot of people wouldn’t necessarily know. Well after a few months that fell through because of my busy schedule and flash forward to 2020 when COVID hit I picked it back up because I had more free time. This time I started a new segment called “Talks with Trell” where I was interviewing people on my blog virtually and sharing their stories. Well after a few months that fell through because I started another grad program and COVID was starting to lessen up. I would always keep in mind my end goal career wise so I started an Instagram where I post current and popular events in the entertainment industry. I started that about a year ago and now because of that I have been given my own radio talk show called “Talks with Trell”. This platform allows for me to be on air and interview people and talk about pop culture moments that are happening.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. Getting into the entertainment industry or the media is not an easy task, even if you have the education it still takes more. I had to hear no after no after no until I found my yes! Also imposter syndrome played a part too. Always second guessing myself and sometimes being discouraged when people would say no. Rome wasn’t built in a day and that would always motivate me because some of the GOATs experienced the same thing so I knew I couldn’t give up and I am so glad that I didn’t.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Well I am the jack of all trades, I am BOOKED N BUSY! My full time job is working as the Human Resources Specialist for a Community Health Center where I am over marketing and recruiting. I am so the Director of Social Media for the Harbor Institute, and now I am a Radio Talk Show Host for a local radio station in Lexington, Kentucky.
I am proud of how far I have came. It is so rewarding waking up and seeing that everything you have dreamed of is becoming a reality. There was days I would sit in class and just day dream of what I am doing now and I love it. What sets me apart from others is my drive! I know what I want and I know I will accomplish that all while staying true to me and being as creative as I can.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
It takes a village! I love my village because they have supported me every step of the way. First and foremost, God for just blessing me tremendously, my Mom for just being a blessing in my life, my mentors for always pushing me, and of course my friends because honestly without them I would not be here. They are my supporters, they have been special guests on my show, they literally pushed me to create the Talks with Trell Instagram which led me to have my own radio talk show. At times being a working adult it is easy to feel alone so having that support is always that boost of energy needed to go that extra mile.
