Hi Daniel, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?

Sure! The journey of Utrain began with my own experiences as a basketball player and trainer. After playing basketball at various levels, including high school, college, and professionally as a 5’9″ point guard, I encountered the challenges of finding quality training and connecting with skilled trainers. This inspired me to create a solution that would make it easier for athletes to access top-notch training.

Together with my co-founders, Cade Lemcke and Joseph Toe, we identified the pain points in the existing system and set out to develop a platform that would revolutionize basketball training. We invested our time, money, and effort into building Utrain, starting with extensive research and development to ensure the platform met the needs of both athletes and trainers.

Our initial focus was on creating a seamless booking experience, integrating features that allowed users to easily find, book, and pay for training sessions. We also prioritized building a community of certified and experienced trainers to provide a diverse range of training options.

Through hard work, dedication, and continuous improvement, Utrain has grown significantly. Today, we’re proud to have achieved $10,000 in monthly revenue and be recognized as a top 15 basketball tech startup. Our platform is helping athletes of all levels connect with the best trainers, improve their skills, and reach their full potential. We’re excited about the future and committed to continuing our mission of transforming basketball training for the better.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?

It hasn’t been a smooth road by any means. One of our biggest challenges was transitioning from being athletes to becoming tech entrepreneurs. We had to learn software development and the intricacies of building a tech platform, which was a steep learning curve.

Funding was another hurdle; we initially bootstrapped Utrain by balancing basketball training gigs and accounting jobs to keep the project alive. Additionally, gaining the trust of both trainers and athletes took time. We needed to build a strong reputation and demonstrate the value of our platform.

Despite these obstacles, our passion for basketball and commitment to solving the pain points in training kept us going. Each challenge taught us valuable lessons and helped us refine our approach. Now, we’re proud of the progress we’ve made and the impact Utrain is having on the basketball community.
