We recently connected with Brandon Wallace and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandon, thanks for joining us today. So, let’s start with a hypothetical – what would you change about the educational system?
If I could change something about the educational system to better prepare students for a fulfilling life and career, I would focus on integrating more real-world practical lessons into the curriculum—specifically topics like taxes, personal finance, entrepreneurship, and essential technical skills such as graphic design and basic web development (HTML).
When I started my own business, I quickly realized how much I lacked in practical knowledge. Although I had the theoretical knowledge from school and past jobs, I had to learn a lot of the day-to-day skills on my own—like how to file taxes, manage finances, and even market my services. It would be incredibly beneficial if all schools offered basic courses that focused on these types of real-world application topics.
Having a basic understanding of taxes for example could have saved me a lot of time and confusion early on. Likewise, lessons on entrepreneurship, such as how to draft a business plan or how to promote a business, would have made the transition from employee to business owner much smoother.
I believe that teaching students practical, life-oriented skills in school would give them the confidence and knowledge to thrive, whether they go into traditional careers or pursue entrepreneurial ventures. These are the types of skills that help people not just survive, but actually succeed and feel fulfilled in their lives and careers.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Brandon James Wallace, and I’m a web designer and entrepreneur based in Los Angeles, CA. Originally from the East Coast, I’m also a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan! I started my small business, Peter Darker, as a way to combine my passion for creativity, technology, and my identity. The name is inspired by my favorite superhero, Spider-Man, with “Darker” being a play on Peter Parker’s name, emphasizing my African American heritage.
Through Peter Darker, I specialize in helping entrepreneurs across the country establish a strong online presence. I design and build websites tailored to their unique needs and provide social media marketing services to boost their visibility. The “web” theme ties in perfectly—not only to my web development work, but also as a nod to Spider-Man’s iconic webs.
What sets me apart is my ability to bring a fresh, personal touch to every project. I believe in creating platforms that truly reflect my clients’ brands and visions, whether they’re launching a new business, or scaling an existing one. I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built with clients and how my work helps them succeed in their endeavors.
For anyone considering working with me, I want you to know that Peter Darker isn’t just about websites—it’s about empowering entrepreneurs to thrive in the digital world with designs and strategies that make an impact.

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
I’d like to say that I’ve always kind of had a hidden passion for graphic design. I had my own personal blog in college that consisted of sports and music that I designed myself. Eventually, a co-worker of mine at the time saw it, liked it, and wanted me to create something similar for him. It was at that moment when I first realized that maybe I could combine this passion with helping others at the same time. I began gathering more potential clients over time through word or mouth and social media marketing, until I finally felt comfortable enough to quit my full-time job and turn this side hustle into my main gig. I’ve been at it for over seven years now and haven’t looked back once.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Giveaways have been huge for me. It’s been a great way to create buzz surrounding my account, and I always try to interact with those who reach out to me, as well as with other similar accounts. It’s important to be consistent too, that’s the key!
