We recently connected with Jessie Tunis and have shared our conversation below.
Jessie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
Picking a name was the very last step for me when it came to starting my business. I couldn’t think of anything! All I knew was that I wanted it to represent me as a person. I had 3 names narrowed down and couldn’t choose one. So I went to the bestie group chat. My friends are the funniest people I’ve ever met so they started coming up with the most silly ideas for a name! I love these girls and I love their humor but I definitely wasn’t going to pick any of the options they gave me 😂
After we finished talking I started a group chat with my 3 nieces. Between the 4 of us we came up with Moonlight Magic Waxing!

Jessie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Ever since I was a kid I knew I wanted to work in the cosmetology world! I enrolled in beauty school right after graduating. I gravitated towards the hair side of cosmetology for about 8 years before taking the jump towards waxing. While I was in school I didn’t think I would ever enjoy body waxing but after feeling some burnout in the hair world I needed a change. I started working part time getting more training and education in body waxing and I fell in love! I knew this was what I wanted to do long term. So I decided to rent a suite and start my own waxing business. I love the relationships I get to build with each of my clients! They are so special to me. I wouldn’t be able to do this if I didn’t have them!

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
I have found most of my new clients through social media. I post my openings and any deals I may have regularly on my business page, personal page and in many groups I’ve found! It’s worked out really well for me.

Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
Thankfully with the direction I took for my business I didn’t need a ton of money to start it. I rent a salon suite and when I first started renting my first 2 weeks were free. Before I started renting I knew I would need to have all my supplies. I was working a part time job and would use my paychecks to purchase all of my equipment and supplies. Once I had everything I needed I started renting my suite. With those 2 weeks free I was able to save the money I would have spent to cover any additional costs that came up.
