We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Claudia Matles. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Claudia below.
Claudia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
I am an independent yoga & Pilates teacher who prides myself on delivering a fully customized approach to my clients’ wellness journeys. Unlike corporate teaching programs that rely on standardized methods, I design each and every session to align with the unique needs and abilities of the individual. My focus is on creating movements that benefit the client’s body and lifestyle while fostering a sense of connection and engagement. By tailoring every aspect of the experience, I ensure my clients not only see results but also stay motivated and invested in their practice, making each session truly transformative and meaningful.

Claudia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For over two decades, I have been teaching private Yoga and Pilates, I love what I do and all of my clients. This entire journey started for me when I was still teaching elementary school in Hawaii and brought yoga into the classroom. Not only did it transform the lives of the students, it transformed mine. After moving back to LA, and still teaching, I pursued my own practice with tremendous passion and openness. After awhile, I felt compelled to start my own business and made it into what it is today – which I am grateful for and super proud of.
I offer bespoke Yoga and Pilates services that cater to client’s unique goals and needs. With over twenty years of teaching privates, I blend mindfulness and movement to improve strength, flexibility, balance and overall well-being. My personalized session range from gentle restorative practices to dynamic sculpting workouts, integrating elements of breath work, alignment, and core stability. I also provide nutrition support, to help clients achieve a holistic sense of health. I am very hands on to ensure clients stay engaged through their own journeys, on and off the mat!

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
For me, I think my reputation was built on my exceptional ability to connect with people and deliver truly personalized experiences, not just a Yoga or Pilates session. My attention to detail, commitment to progress and ability to create welcoming and transformative environments have made my reputation only grow. This is also the catalyst to winning “Best Yoga & Pilates Teacher in the Hamptons” for fourteen consecutive years…

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I have built my business from referrals since day one and word of mouth has been the most powerful tool for me over twenty years. Therefore, building strong relationships and being kind, never disappoints.
