Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dale Mbambi. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dale, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One deeply underappreciated facet of being a service provider is the kind of crazy stuff that happens from time to time. It could be anything from a disgruntled client attacking an employee or waking up to find out a celebrity gave you a shoutout on TikTok – the sudden, unexpected hits (both positive and negative) make the profession both exhilarating and exhausting. Can you share one of your craziest stories?
Working at a financial services firm, you get to see a bunch of accounts and hear stories as to people acquired their wealth. This one guy in his small account had $11.4M dollars invested in Exxon stock. So every 3 months, the company would send him a $75K check. He would then use that money to fund his lifestyle. He didn’t work, he didn’t have to go chase money, he just receives a dividend check and lives his life. When I see how we hustle and trade in our time for money, it make me work harder to invest as much as I can to live the life that I want. Once I figured out the power of investing, I joined the business to share the knowledge to as many people as possible.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I ended up becoming a financial advisor after 10 years in corporate america. I’ve always invested and managed accounts for friends and family, but after doing it for so long, I wanted to bet on myself and take the risk of joining this crowded field. With less than 5% of all Financial Advisors being African American, I knew there was a need for individuals like myself to teach financial literacy. We tend to think to be good at finances, it’s all about big words and understanding complex formulas and that’s the furthest thing from the truth. It’s all about discipline and controlling your impulses and telling your money where it needs to go.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Referrals have been the backbone of my business. If you can earn trust and respect in one client, they in return will bring you more business.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I try to reach out as much as possible. Many people don’t understand how many things can change in a month or even a week. so I try to keep as much open communication with my clients and let them know they can reach me for anything.
