We were lucky to catch up with Amie Beckwith Lmt #17152 recently and have shared our conversation below.
Amie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Having a well established practice and clientele in bodywork, I decided to dedicate more time, space, and energy to promoting my divination business. I loved massage and wanted to continue with that career, but also felt the drive to expand my tarot card reading reach. I saw those around me and online looking to find deeper meaning in their daily lives and to understand world events beyond headlines. Sometimes the best way to greater clarity is viewing issues through a different lens- I wanted to help make a new perspective available. For myself the push to have greater income diversity, and a more flexible schedule that could include not only hosting tarot readings on my flagstone patio, but also remote phone consultations- giving me the option to work while traveling- added to a desire to bring my Archetypal Tarot style to more people. ‘Time is money’ but it was the moment for an investment.
In the physical realm, I started this transition by freshening up my website and business cards with the help of my amazing designer. Checking in with multiple small business friends, fellow writers, and divination peers I sought feedback for the site, marketing, and tips on ways to move forward in promotion and execution of this expanded business venture. On a less terrestrial level, I meditated on what I wanted to bring into being, created rituals for manifesting new clients, and even got the business a tarot reading from my own trusted reader. After all the hard work, interest was quick in presenting itself and after the first ritual alone, within a week I had five new clients.

Amie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Heal Thyself
Alchemy through bodywork and divination
Heal Thyself offers transformation as an attainable goal and works to empower clients in healing their own selves. Feeling better, more grounded, and clear-sighted is an option.
Born with my Sun, Mercury, Venus, and Saturn in Cancer (ruled by the Moon, which can represent the Unconscious, emotions, or intuition), in my 1st House—making my Ascendant also Cancer—I’ve always had a sense of workings just below the surface. Interpreting dreams for others and myself since my teen years, I felt drawn to pay close attention to the patterns and synchronicities in both Nature and human nature. Initiating my study of Tarot in 2009 felt like an organic evolution of this process. Helping others sift through details and signs via the cards is a fascinating undertaking that I never tire of.
Archetypal Tarot is the term I use for my personal form of card reading. Taking aspects of Jungian Psychology, the symbolism in multiple traditions, and adding a significant dose of intuition, I invite the querent into conversation over patterns seen to understand those unseen. The reading itself is a joint venture to recognize the motifs of the past, present, and future (if actions and attitudes continue as they are). At times, more insights or questions will arise following the initial visit and I always welcome my clients to contact me after their reading to discuss these. I think my availability for ‘aftercare’ sets me apart from others who practice divination. Clients can gain awareness and greater discernment from the comfort of their own space via phone, or make an appointment to meet in person.
After returning to school in my mid-thirties, I graduated from Portland, OR’s East West College of the Healing Arts in 2010, then immediately embarked on an exploration of the alchemy of bodywork. In addition to this nationally accredited schooling, mentoring with amazing teachers, and over a decade of practice, I have a vast interest in the psychology of the body. Over time I have developed my own style of Craniosacral Therapy taking cues from myofascial release, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and other elemental theories. I deeply believe in Craniosacral Therapy and love watching the many benefits it can bring to clients.
Craniosacral Therapy (CST) works directly with the central nervous system (CNS) by manually manipulating the fascial layers (meninges) surrounding the brain and spinal column using bones in the cranium, face, and sacrum as levers. These meninges are filled with cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) that bathes and feeds the CNS. CST affects all systems of the body, as the CNS controls them all. This technique is especially indicated for issues related to stress, hormonal or neurological imbalance, and trauma. There is an aspect of this therapy that is difficult to describe, which I refer to as “my electric body communicating with your electric body.” Undeniably, this type of bodywork can have a metaphysical quality.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Absolutely the most important element of bodywork and divination is having a genuine interest in your clients and their wellbeing. All the training available is just science and theory, all the followers on social media are just votes of popularity, if you aren’t caring about someone on a deeper level. People can feel this. Bodies that are looking to heal and hearts that are looking for insights respond to love.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
In late 2015 then early 2016 I suffered two separate traumatic brain injuries. It was initially devastating, and continues to be a part of my own healing journey, but has given me first person insight into neurological issues and their treatment. Taking this experience (and so greater empathy) to my clients has made a noticeable difference in my work and its outcomes. Another silver lining, although it has made paperwork a bigger pain, following that time I feel the obscure meanings of the cards to be much more apparent.
