We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jamie West. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jamie below.
Hi Jamie, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
The first time i knew i wanted to have a music career would probably be sometime when i was little, i cant pinpoint an exact moment because ive always loved music. I would perform different songs all around my house just imagining i was on stage and when i got older and i made my first song it just felt like it was meant for me. You ever feel like you’re destined for something? That’s exactly what it felt like and it intensifies every day haha

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Sure thing, Im an optician who also happens to make music. Ive been doing music for about 4 years with more room to grow and optics has been about 3. Getting into the music industry was hard because i had to have the right connections and know how to network myself. When dealing with things like that you have to know how to become marketable and vocal along with other factors. I would say my main product is entertainment, while in optics my service is dealing and helping people with their eyes which is a total opposite of music.
I would say my problems in music are more so gaining that audience while also trying to get the right sound that i may feel is IT or has that IT factor
While with optics my problems are making sure a patient can see whether it be through glasses or contacts
But what i would say im proud of is that with both of these things
Im still helping people in some way shape or form
And i think thats what i want people to know and understand is that we can honestly do whatever we set our mind to
Its just how bad do we really want it
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I feel as if society needs to be more open minded to creativity. We all can learn something from each other by listening and seeing how we’re all different whether that be someone building, dancing, singing, rapping WHATEVER, its room for so many people to learn and become better at what their dreams and ambitions are. The world is so full of people who want to be better than the next instead of trying to help
And i think that will be our biggest downfall if not already.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
BE YOURSELF! I know it may seem like a generic answer but in all honesty when people find out what their niche is they’re going to see how different it may be from someone else’s. People will notice authenticity before a copy cat. I built my social media personality on always speaking my mind and relating to others because i can speak from a place of recognition and understanding while also making music for people who have the same taste or mindset ya know.
Be relatable but dont force it
Why speak on a topic you know nothing of, right?
Youll see how many people you attract vs the people you push away when you are being you vs being something you’re not
