One of the most defining moments in my life was being forced to pivot in a way I never could have anticipated. It was a time when the stability I thought I had built crumbled overnight—both literally and figuratively.
At the height of my early success in e-commerce, I was living in Dallas, Texas, and beginning to see the fruits of my labor after countless failures, long nights, and relentless determination. My store had just crossed six figures in sales, and I finally felt like I was on the cusp of creating the life I had always envisioned. But life had a different plan.
A freak accident changed everything. A crane collapsed into my apartment complex, completely destroying my home, my belongings, and even killing some of my neighbors. In the blink of an eye, I was left homeless, without a car, and with nothing but the clothes on my back. I didn’t have family nearby, no strong support system in Dallas, and no resources to rely on. It was the lowest point of my life.
At that moment, I had two choices: give up or rebuild. I chose the latter. I scraped together whatever I could, sleeping at a church across the street from my destroyed apartment and relying on public resources to survive. I didn’t even have access to my laptop to run my business. With nothing to lose, I walked into a Best Buy, took out a loan for a new laptop, and committed to getting back on my feet.
