Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Davida Rappaport. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Davida, appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
One of the biggest, life-changing risks I took was when I relocated to Los Angeles from Chicago 30 years ago. It was a crazy move to make, and I had no guarantee that it was the right decision. But I did it. It all started with a $5 raffle ticket. I won free airfare for 2 to Las Vegas…and I took a co-worker with me who loved Vegas.
Since I rarely traveled, I reached out to my girlfriend, and her then fiance, who recently relocated to Los Angeles. I thought maybe I could get an agent to represent me as a psychic and an actress and possibly move to Los Angeles. Why not? I had no idea where that thought came from. I asked my girlfriend to find a list of variety agents that I could contact. She did and I connected with one. After one day in Las Vegas, I rented a car and drove to Los Angeles to meet my new agent and see my girlfriend.
The agent wanted to represent me as a psychic and develop a talk show for me. Great news! The Vegas trip was successful for both my co-worker and myself — she won at slots and I acquired an agent. My next trip to Los Angeles happened to be the week after the Northridge earthquake. I met with my agent to discuss the show and our next steps, which included my moving to Los Angeles. Things were looking up. Several months later, due to some supervisory changes at the marketing agency I was working for, I had a new supervisor. I had trusted my agent, put my condo on the market, and I had a potential buyer almost immediately. I knew if I didn’t leave my job I would be terminated. Then my agent disappeared without a trace. It seemed that the universe was forcing my hand. It made sense for me to take a risk and relocate to Los Angeles. My home was sold, my job was over, and I had a chance to reinvent myself and my psychic career. There was no turning back.
The transition to a different city and its energy was eye opening. Los Angeles was not Chicago. I knew this move was a risk I was supposed to take. I never regretted it and how many times I had to reinvent myself since. It took many years for me to understand the mechanism of change and divine guidance.

Davida, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a psychic. You can also refer to me as a clairvoyant, intuitive, sensitive, medium, channeler, fortuneteller, or palm reader. My job is to read for people. I pick up their energy and use whatever tool the clients who book me want me to use. I provide uplifting entertainment for all types of events. Put simply, I provide “entertainment, enlightenment and empowerment.”
I’ve been doing readings for a very long time, and I’m fortunate that I am in one of the few professions where age and experience is advantageous. I love working events. The adrenaline rush is amazing. People are celebrating, happy and open. This energy helps me connect to each and every person who sits down with me so I can provide information that resonates with them. I’m ethical, down-to-earth and transparent. What you see is what you get. When someone hires me to do readings at an event, my job is to provide excellent, accurate information to every guest who sits down with me while contributing to the success of the party at the same time.
I started doing Tarot readings, and then advanced to palm readings, later adding seashell, handwriting and lipstick readings over time. For me, it is all about connecting with people and their energy. I will work any type of event that wants what I have to offer. Occasionally, I receive requests for private sessions from someone I read at an event. I probably should have been promoting my services to private clients all these years, but since I was working full time too, I didn’t have the time. Now that I am retired from office work, I am more available for private appointments.
I started teaching Tarot classes at Santa Monica College (Community Education) in 2006 and I still teach there (remotely now). I want to help people learn about Tarot, understand how it can be used in their lives, become better readers and share my years of knowledge and experience. I always hope to find a student or two who want to be part of the next generation of ethical Tarot readers.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
I don’t believe I would change my profession if I could go back in time. My profession chose me. I love what I do and the person I became. Everything worked out the way it was supposed to.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Always treat everyone with respect. I knew that if I wanted to build my reputation and work consistently, I needed to have good ethics, and build relationships with all types of people. My business is communication, so it is imperative that all of my communication is clear and that everyone is on the same page. Referrals and reviews have always been the best way for me to build my reputation. I provide referrals when someone needs one and offer them if I am unavailable. When a friend referred me to The Bash (fka GigMasters) as a source of getting work when things were slow ten years ago — it changed my life in so many ways.
