We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cally Logan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Cally, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
There is a distinct gift creatives have that is unique to the calling and that is creatives have the closest thing to eternal life this side of Heaven. This is because their work will outlive them, it will go on even when their final breaths have been taken and they are no longer a resident of this earth. The question then begs, what work will you leave behind? Will it be something that benefits others for good? My deepest hope is that the work of my hands and heart will be that of light, love, and most of all honor and glory to God that extends to the length and depth that He sees fit.
Years ago when I was in contemplative prayer time with the Lord I felt Him as me what I would like in my life. For many the logical answer would be something along the lines of security with money, influence for personal gain, or experiences like travel. What I felt stir in my heart in connection with the Lord was that I want to have a “remarkable life.” What I meant and mean by this is a life that is unique and one that is anything but cookie cutter, but above all else a life that works as a mark that can be stamped again and again. A life that is re-marked with the works, the love, and the heart above all else not of my own origin, but that of God Himself. For it is His Light that abides within me, so like a candle that has been lit that goes onward to light more candles so I desire that His Light in me may be used to mark and light candles that come after me. I do not care if people remember my name or the titles of the books I write or studies I cultivate, rather, that they are met with His Light through my life.
Legacy is something that lives on past our own lives, but it is something that ought to reflect something or someone greater than the light bearer. My prayer is that the light I bear carries forth the legacy of a life lived loving and serving God in total and full obedience above all else. Everything else doesn’t really even hold a candle….
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi There!
I’m Cally. I’m a thirty-something quirky author and writer who finds beauty in the mysteries of life, and in the glory all around us in the details big and small. Story telling is my passion. I believe each and every one us hold a unique, valuable, and hand-written story by God, and together we are part of the Grand Story He has written.
My heart and mission is to share journeys, lessons, and encouragement along the way as we each walk the path set before us. I am the author of three books, “Hang in There, Girl!” (2022), “Dear Future Husband” (2023), and “The Wallflower that Bloomed” (2024). These works have had the beautiful opportunity to be featured on major outlets such as the 700 Club Interactive, Jesus Calling Blog, and many more. I am also a Senior Writer for Crosswalk.com and for The Rooted Truth.
The desire of my heart and life is to encourage others in the love that I have experienced through relationship with Christ Jesus. I believe that He has a one-of-a-kind story for each and every one of us and in partnering with Him we can experience the joy it is to be alive.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
There is something ineffably humbling when someone shares how a book you wrote or an article you released helped them have a new hope or provided them with a different experience in their own life. We get very caught up in our own little worlds that we seldom remember that we are not made to do life alone, nor are we to live for just ourselves. It is an enormous treasure to be given a glimpse of the fruit that is harvested of works I have been entrusted to carry forth.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
One resource I wish I had tapped into more is that of curiosity in asking those who are older or more experienced in a certain field. In a moment of pride I felt insecure to reveal or expose my need for help in areas I was very new and not accustomed to in creative fields, but I wish I had not allowed myself to stay there as long as I did. I found that in asking those who had more than one rodeo under their belt that I gained wisdom, insights, and I was able to foster a sort of kinship with those who are also in my field. We think everyone is competition, but at times they may actually be a collaborator in the making.
