We were lucky to catch up with Devyn Moon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Devyn , appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
To be honest I can’t really recall an exact moment where I had an epiphany like that. You know all those cliché motivational posters in school or cheesy Disney films that say “do what makes you happy!”
I really think I believed that through and through growing up and I still do! Im in love making music, creating and the adventures that came with it. It sounds super weird but I feel like I always knew like I really can do something with this. I see myself doing this forever and growing with it. So why not !
Devyn , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hey, I’m Devyn Moon, I’m a singer songwriter and producer from Houston, Texas.
I like to think the music I make embodies the feeling of a really long drive homes in the middle of the night when the rest of the world is asleep.
Ironically it’s where I like to do most of my thinking. Just me, my thoughts and the radio. My sonics feel like a good mixture of R&B, Electronic, Chill-Hiphop and Soul.
I’ve worked on music professionally probably since around 2017, about a year after I graduated High School. And reflecting on it now, it’s been one crazy journey.
I’ve been blessed to have a few works land on the Top Charts on Apple Music in 14 different countries. Worked with amazing artists, had label releases with Electro Pose to name a few.
All in all, to be able to make music it feels like a dream but only whenever I kind of sit back and think about you know? When you love what you do and who you do it for, life has the tendency to fly by like one long never ending movie and I don’t see myself taking an intermission anytime soon.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Self-Care is still progress. I’m serious, I feel like with the speed and progression of social media we find our selves in an echo chamber of our own making.
When we find ourselves there, watching your peers, other musicians and creators on these platforms. You subliminally trick your brain into thinking that you have to be doing something all the time. “Rise & Shine, Hustle & Grind “; it’s just not healthy.
Trust in the process, hone your craft, stop idealizing perfection and fame. Do it for the love of it and part of that is allowing yourself to take breaks.
Creativity requires vulnerability and the ability to articulate feelings that just can’t be expressed in conversation. So heal your mind, body & soul.
We all eventually get to where we need to be, even if it means we get 1% better each and every day.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The people you meet along the way. If you’re a creative in any medium, you probably felt misunderstood growing up. When you come into this industry you meet a lot of people, but you eventually find your people. You know what I’m saying?
I wouldn’t be where I am at all without my people, friends, my team and loved ones. It’s like being an artist gives you a beautiful chance to create and recreate a new day everyday and meet amazing people.
