We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Steph. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Steph below.
Steph, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I was 11 or 12. I drew a cartoon of our math teacher (naked) on the blackboard before class started. Everyone laughed (except our math teacher). That’s when I knew I wanted to be a cartoonist.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
It’s boring. I was an art director/partner of a design/marketing agency for 30+ years. We did nice work, we won awards, we paid our bills, and we kept our clients happy. Then I semi-retired and decided to focus on my first love: drawing single panel cartoons. I am having a great time, I am getting better at it, and I am even getting published.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Creating.
“To create is to live twice.”
― Albert Camus
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Tintin (adventurer), Kliban (cartoonist), Montaigne (philosopher), Boucar Diouf (Canadian scientist-comedian), Georges Brassens (singer), my first accountant (best advice ever given: “Pay your taxes before you pay yourself!”)
