We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Maia Sylba a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Maia , thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Throughout my career as a designer, consultant, curator, and editor of a visual arts magazine, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with a wide array of talented professionals, artists, and creatives. The projects I’ve worked on have been inspiring, diverse, and often evocative, pushing the boundaries of creativity in meaningful ways. I’ve had the honor of collaborating with renowned galleries, academic institutions, and even television channels such as ARTE. Each of these projects has been an enriching experience, allowing me to grow and contribute to the vibrant world of the arts.
However, the most profound and meaningful project I have ever worked on is undoubtedly Musetouch Visual Arts Magazine, my own creation, my true love, my passion. It is far more than just a magazine for me; it is a reflection of my soul, my thoughts, and my perspective on the world. Through its pages, I am able to express how I see the world, how I feel about people, and how I perceive the deeper dimensions of life. Every issue of Musetouch is a part of me, an intimate portrayal of my journey, my vision, and the emotions that define my existence. It is where my creative spirit truly finds its home, and it continues to be the most fulfilling project of my life.
Maia , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I consider myself a person of simplicity, grounded in the desires and aspirations that are universal to us all…a peaceful life, the warmth of family, and the companionship of friends. Yet, there is something in my essence that others often perceive as unique, even mysterious. Perhaps it is the depth of my connection to the world around me or the quiet complexity of my thoughts. As the founder and editor of Musetouch Visual Arts Magazine, a project I launched in 2010, I have poured my heart into this work for over fourteen years. From the very first day, my dedication to this magazine has been unwavering, fueled by love, passion, and an unrelenting devotion to the craft.
I cherish every aspect of my role, from curating the pages to collaborating with artists—people who share an extraordinary vision of the world. There is a profound beauty in the creative process, in the exchange of ideas, and in the way art has the power to transcend boundaries. My work is not merely a profession; it is a calling, a deep love that consumes me. I am fully immersed in it, often working long hours without hesitation, because it brings me fulfillment beyond measure. This life I’ve chosen is my joy, my purpose, and I embrace it with all the fervor it deserves.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
At the heart of my creative journey with Musetouch lies an unwavering belief in the transformative power of art…its ability to connect individuals across time and space, spark meaningful dialogue, and transcend cultural boundaries. When I founded Musetouch, it was born from a profound passion for the visual arts and an earnest desire to cultivate a platform that would amplify the voices of artists from every corner of the world. As the founder, editor, and owner, I have dedicated myself to curating a sanctuary where both established and emerging artists can share their work, their stories, and their visions, nurturing a global community bound by the universal language of creativity and the shared pursuit of beauty.
With each carefully curated feature, insightful article, and captivating video showcase, my mission has always been to celebrate the breathtaking diversity of artistic expression. I strive to make art not only accessible but relevant—opening its doors to a broader, more engaged audience. In everything we do at Musetouch, I aim to elevate the dialogue around art, encouraging a deeper understanding of its power to heal, inspire, and challenge the status quo. Ultimately, the mission behind Musetouch is to foster meaningful connections, elevate the voices of artists worldwide, and contribute to a world where art is a collective force for human purpose, unity, and understanding.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative, for me, is the opportunity to witness the profound and often transformative impact that art can have on individuals and communities. Through my work with Musetouch, I am constantly inspired by the diverse voices and expressions that emerge from artists around the world. There is an unparalleled joy in providing a platform where these voices can be heard, seen, and truly appreciated. What excites me most is the connection that art fosters, whether it’s the emotional bond between the artist and their audience, or the camaraderie that blossoms between artists themselves, as they share and exchange their visions.
At the heart of my creative journey is a belief that creativity transcends borders and connects us in our shared humanity. Being able to amplify this connection, to help bring people together through the beauty and power of visual art, is an incredible gift. The process is a continuous journey of discovery and growth, not only for the artists we showcase but also for me as a creative force behind the magazine. It is deeply fulfilling to know that my work contributes to a larger conversation, one where art becomes a bridge that unites, heals, and inspires. This, to me, is the most rewarding part of being a creative…knowing that what I do touches lives and makes a difference in ways that go beyond words.
