We were lucky to catch up with Candyce Norris Jenkins recently and have shared our conversation below.
Candyce, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We love heartwarming stories – do you have a heartwarming story from your career to share?
From Chaos to Conqueror: How I created my THRIVE system
After being diagnosed with Type One diabetes as a child, I struggled to find my way through life. Lack of support, stigmas, and shame caused me to go into denial about my illness and stop caring for myself altogether. Eventually, being out of control caught up to me and I realized I was losing my vision. A myriad of other health challenges compounded on to my diagnosis and by the time I reached 26, i started my first dialysis treatment. Fast forward, after 2 successful kidney transplants, my husband and I learned we were expecting. I had to make the decision to prioritize my own health all while taking care of my beautiful baby girl.
That’s where the THRIVE system was created- my proven system to prioritize my own self care without the Mom guilt. Since creating my system, I’ve experienced clarity and confidence that I never had before.
Now using THRIVE, I teach other moms living with diabetes how they can prioritize their self care, maintain a healthy lifestyle, and reshape a positive perspective around their diagnosis.
My hope is that we spread the word and free women from the guilt and stigma I had to overcome.

Candyce, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into life coaching because it was a natural calling. I’ve always wanted to help women- sound the alarm that you can live and THRIVE with diabetes.
You can join my private community on Facebook @The Thriving Diabetic Mom Community. Link here: https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1AenCeiqf4/?mibextid=K35XfP
This is a safe space where moms who are living with diabetes or caring for a loved one with diabetes can relate and support to other women.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn the grind mentality. I’ve achieved the greatest success after resting and recharging. Rather than being hasty, I plan things and execute them. This concept has really changed my business and my life.

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
I would choose the same profession 1000 times again. I do feel that it’s my calling- it’s the reason why I experienced so many challenges, so that I can help someone else.
