Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jasmine Washington. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jasmine, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
My most meaningful project is actually one I’m currently working on entitled, “The First of Many Series”.
“The First of Many Series” is a Movement; An appreciation and realization of self centered around artists and creatives (from or) based in Baltimore.
TFOMS highlights 50 artists and creatives here in Baltimore while providing them a moment to just be. A moment to reflect on their journeys – personal, professional and creatively. This initiative encourages them to envision greater possibilities and aim even higher in their pursuits.
A lot of times the art is appreciated, but not the artist when really the artist is the art.
Through this project, I aim to shift perspectives while emphasizing and educating others on the importance of community and collaboration.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Jasmine Washington and I am a Film/Medium Format Photographer and Visual Artist from and based in Baltimore, MD. I am also the founder/owner of SOURCHER /sourcer, source-her/ STUDIO, a photography and content space located in the Station North Arts District of Baltimore city.
My work explores the intersection of portraiture and art history, defined by its rawness and purposeful distortion. My images evoke what is often overlooked, aiming to reveal what is seen but not heard and visible but unseen.
My creative journey began in music, I am a classically trained pianist and vocalist, having studied at the Peabody Institute and participated in various music groups throughout grade school. Shy by nature, I used my personal style as a form of self-expression, which led to a career in the fashion industry. I gained experience in styling, consulting, creative direction, and set design, working across multiple facets of the business.
Although I had long been interested in photography, it wasn’t until I purchased a Canon camera from Japan in 2022 that I fully embraced the medium. Since then, I have dedicated myself to capturing powerful, evocative imagery.
Through my current project, “The First of Many Series,” I have not only discovered my voice, but have also helped others find and re-discover theirs.
My passion for art aligns with my purpose: to help others while creating meaningful work. Through my lens, I reframe perspectives and invite viewers to experience a deeper connection with the world and people around them.
I am truly happy and grateful to be present. I have finally reached a space of unapologetic authenticity with my art. I am creating for myself and no one else.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to unlearn is the need to create for everyone. While it’s tempting to say I want my work to be inclusive, this can sometimes blur the lines when defining your audience and clientele.
I’ve realized that I don’t need my work to be for everyone—but I do want everyone to find something of themselves in it. Whether it sparks a memory or offers a new perspective, the connection doesn’t have to be universal to be meaningful.
When you try to create for everyone, your work loses focus and direction.
Instead, create for yourself first. Infuse your work with your voice, your vision, and your truth. Those who are meant to find it will. Let your gift be your guide. Your gift is your voice, use it!
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Honestly, it’s about making my inner child happy.
One of my nicknames growing up was Jaebo, and my goal is to affirm her—to let her know those “crazy dreams” were always possible and that she was right all along.
Jaebo has been leading the way, fearlessly creating for herself, and in doing so, inspiring others.
