Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Grant Mona. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Grant, appreciate you joining us today. Do you manage your own social media?
I manage my own social media accounts, across multiple platforms, including TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and X.
I made the choice that I did because I did not have any other choice. I started my pages and want to cater those pages to my specific type of content and grow my brand organically.
I feel like I have full control over when something gets posted, what type of content gets posted on which days, and how many clips I want to use. Do I wish I had help with the editing itself? Of course, but I love being in control of my platforms.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I have loved sports from the time I picked up my first baseball. Through my years of playing baseball, reaching the Division 1 level at University of the Pacific, sports has been my life.
When I was off the field, I was looking at highlights, watching the games, studying the players mannerisms and playing video games of those sports nonstop.
I started to grow in sports media itself after I graduated in 2020 and learn as I did more podcasts, and eventually I met Arash Markazi, who was Brandon’s professor at USC. Arash took me in to do radio segments here and there to begin, and before I knew it, I was writing articles for the Dodgers, Clippers, Rams and Lakers.
Now, I am the Clippers beat reporter for The Sporting Tribune, which is Arash’s company, I am the video and audio director for the live streams and I have grown each of my channels and social media accounts all organically. I am the most proud of my perseverance, because there have been many instances where I felt like I was not good enough to do sports media, and let the numbers and following get to me.
Now, I try to grow step-by-step, day-by-day and appreciate even one view, one follow, or one interaction to my content.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
After I graduated in 2020, COVID was still ramping up and starting to spread throughout the world, and with me came uncertainty.
I got a text from my good friend Brandon Deutsch out of the blue, who asked me, “Wanna come on my podcast and talk some NBA?” Talking in front of a camera and microphone was never hard for me, so I said “sure, let’s do it.”
We created a duo podcast talking about sports and grew our own brand, using various locations and connecting with different people. Now, we are both growing our own channels and collating when our paths cross, but my decision has brought me to meet so many prominent people, and experience so many things that I once dreamed of.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I believe that for me, the most rewarding aspect is just being around so many like-minded, generous people. I have had the opportunity to meet so many great people (that I am still learning from), and thus spread my knowledge as I have learned to others. I truly want everyone to grow, and everyone to feel as happy and satisfied as I do when someone views or likes my sports content.
I think that saying things how they are, as opposed to how they should be perceived or viewed generally, is the best way to grow your brand. Be unique, be yourself, and say what you want to say when you want to say it.
