We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Anjru Adams a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Anjru , thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump right into the heart of things. Outsiders often think businesses or industries have much larger profit margins than they actually do – the reason is that outsiders are often unaware of the biggest challenges to profitability in various industries – what’s the biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
I would say the hardest way to gain profit in the music industry is hard ticket sales. It’s also the best way to gain a profit because if you can sell out shows you can make money off the tickets probably more merch sales that way to. It’s a challenge because its a real test to your music and tells you if your music is really good or not. Do people want to use their hard earned money to come see you perform?

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Anjru Adams i’m a producer/DJ/Manager. I got into the music industry because one of my best friends could rap and it was always kind of a thing we would talk about then one day we did more than talk about it. I think what sets me apart from others is my determination and willingness to go the extra mile. Also my belief in what I do and myself. What i’m most proud of is really just turning nothing into something which is still a work in progress but i’ve done some pretty cool things on this journey. Also meeting the people I work with and get to perform with. Thats my favorite part I just like making music with other people. What I want is to create a path or show that you really can do anything you set your mind to and that it doesn’t matter where you are from. You just have to work hard enough.

Any advice for managing a team?
My first advice for managing a team would be to definitely make sure everybody is on the same page. Understands and believes in the vision. Honestly willing to die for it. Thats one thing i have learned in this process. There’s not a lot willing to risk it all for what they think they love. Second make sure you do your best to be a good leader. This could honestly be first. You have to make sure you’re leading your people in the right way and in order to do that you have to really learn about your team what works for them ways to help them out. Believe in them even when they don’t or stop believing in themselves. Learn to give tough love and be constructively critical but not too much to where you could hurt someones feelings or bring down their confidence. It’s your job to uplift even if you might not understand. I had to learn that. There’s also times where you will probably have to carry the team on your back and thats just what it is. If you wanna be the boss then be the boss. Don’t complain just take care of it and make it happen.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I can just tell you that my story is still being written i’m no where close to where I want to be. So everyday i wake up and keep going believing in the vision, the music, the universe, that theres something more for me in life. Quitting is no where in sight. I couldn’t even imagine it, I just need to keep going. Nothing can stop me.
