We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Andrea Rullo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrea, thanks for joining us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I am happy doing what I do as an artist and creative. There have been times when I’ve thought about giving up my path and pursuing a more traditional job, simply because what I do is not always easy. It’s natural to have tough periods, and I believe that’s just part of life. Despite these moments, I am still here, continuing to do what I love, never having given up in any meaningful way. The reason I haven’t walked away is because I truly love what I do, and what I love most about it is the freedom it allows me to have in my work.
Andrea, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I entered the music industry out of pure passion, heavily influenced by my older brother, ‘djey Piko,’ who is a DJ and producer. Our childhood was filled with playing around with homemade turntables, pretending to be DJs. I believe that early exposure sparked my passion for music. As I grew older, it became clear that this was the path I was meant to take, so I started creating my own productions, sending demo tracks to every label I could find. After years of trial and error, and a lot of hard work, I eventually gained the attention of some major industry professionals.
Over time, top-tier names in the scene, like Tiesto, David Guetta, and Martin Garrix, began supporting my music on global platforms. This led to my music being featured on renowned outlets like BBC, SiriusXM, CBS, and even NFL broadcasts. The breakthrough moment came when a track I produced entered the Billboard charts, opening up new opportunities and collaborations across various genres with amazing artists like James Arthur, ONYX, C-Kan, Faouzia, and many others ammassing almost 100 millions streams globally.
Thanks to my involvement with the M.O.B. collective in Los Angeles, I’ve had the chance to explore musical genres beyond what I initially focused on, expanding my horizons as both a producer and an engineer. Now, I offer my experience to others, helping them refine their sound and reach their musical goals.
What I believe sets me apart is that I come from humble beginnings.
My knowledge is built on years of hands-on experience, learning by doing, and constantly evolving in the real world of music production. This gives me a genuine understanding of what it takes to succeed, and I’m not limited to just a few genres.
I’m deeply proud of my journey and what I’ve accomplished, and what I want people to take away from my story is this: with passion, dedication, and minimal investment, anything is possible. It’s all about the right approach, and if you stay committed, you can achieve your dreams and goals, just like I did. I’m here to help achieve this!
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Yes, I do have a guiding mission behind my creative journey. On a personal level, my goal is to build a career around what has always been my passion and joy. Doing what I love means that, for the most part, it never truly feels like work. It aligns with the famous saying, ‘Do what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life.’ I truly enjoy what I do, and that intrinsic satisfaction drives me.
On a broader level, my mission extends to offering my experience—both musical and otherwise—to others. I aim to be of service, sharing my skills and insights while ensuring I maintain a high level of professionalism. It’s about bringing joy to what I do and doing it with the best possible approach for those I work with.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Yes, a book I love is “The Power Of Habit by Charles Duhigg”
