Marlenn, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I believe the 3 keys to success is drive, hard work and having a rich mentality. Your mindset is so important because it’s the way you view and think that lays the foundation for you to reach and accomplish your goals. For example if you have a poor mentality you will always find problems, say things like “I can’t afford this or that” and be afraid of taking risks while on the other hand if you have a rich mentality, you will find solutions, say “HOW can I get to afford this” and invest in things that you know will pay you back. Being goal driven and hardworking go hand in hand because you have an urge to be successful so you commit and put in the work . It all pays off in the end!

Hey everyone! My name is Marlenn, I am 22 years old. I’m the face behind @beautybymarlenn. I am an independent hairstylist located in Fort Worth, TX. I offer cuts, color and extensions! My goal in the beauty industry is to have my clients looking & feeling FABULOUS by providing a one of a kind experience and focusing on their needs! I love to celebrate diversity and am obsessed with growth and learning new ways to perfect my craft! I started in the industry during Covid, which was very challenging since everything was closing down. I was working as an assistant during those times but was able to learn and be promoted to level 1 stylist. A few things came up and I was left having to go off on my own and I started working independently at a new salon. I was very nervous but determined to build up my clientele and before I knew it I became booked and busy but always welcoming new guests of course! I now have an assistant that helps me tag team and I am able to teach and pass on my knowledge!
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy would definitely be Instagram! I try to post at least twice a day weather it be a story or a reel. The more you post pictures of a certain hair style or color the more it will attract clients that are looking for that specific service. Posting my availability every week and using local hashtags has also been key to growing my clientele.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I like to educate and build relationships with my clients. I believe that is what makes me stand out from others, going above and beyond and customizing their experience as a consumer. I keep in touch with my clients through social media like Instagram or Facebook. I also offer a few incentives to new guests and referrals as well as creating promotions for existing clients.
