Hi Doc, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?

I started Peace Peloton with a few cycling friends, all dedicated to equality of opportunity for Black people. Our shared passion for cycling helped us transform a social demonstration into a thriving economic development non-profit.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?

No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many organizations, we’ve faced significant challenges, including securing fundraising and capital project funding. Bureaucratic roadblocks have also been a constant hurdle. Additionally, we’ve navigated the complexities of community engagement, balancing diverse interests, and maintaining momentum in the face of setbacks. Each challenge has tested our resolve but has also strengthened our commitment to our mission.

As you know, we’re big fans of Peace Peloton. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?

Peace Peloton is dedicated to accelerating the success of Black entrepreneurs and businesses, but our mission extends beyond that to embrace inclusivity. We aim to identify talented individuals with scalable products or services and help advance them from ideation to scale.

As the Executive Director, I bring a background in life coaching, which has honed my ability to navigate human behavior and sharpened my listening skills. These abilities are crucial for addressing both critical and strategic matters within our organization.

What sets Peace Peloton apart is our unique origin and evolution. We started as a small group of cycling enthusiasts united by a commitment to equality of opportunity for Black people. This common passion allowed us to consistently engage and evolve from a social demonstration into a well-organized and thriving economic development non-profit.

I am most proud of how our brand embodies resilience and community. We’ve faced numerous challenges, from fundraising and capital project funding to bureaucratic roadblocks. Each challenge has only strengthened our resolve and commitment to our mission.

What makes you happy?

What makes me happy is exercising my choice to explore life’s many offerings. I find joy in cataloging experiences that shape how I move through the world with joy, thought, laughter, and love. Embracing new adventures and learning from each moment fuels my happiness and enriches my perspective on life.
