We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Camille Burthwright. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Camille below.
Camille, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
A lot of people have various ideas of what they think it takes to be successful and I do believe its subjective. However, personally the main components to achieving success consists of having passion for what you are doing which will allow you to stay motivated and thus consistent in your efforts. Coupled with doing all you can to gain knowledge thereby allowing you to test various formulas and find that winning formula that will work for whatever it is you are trying to be successful in. The final step is recognizing and accepting that this is all a process, and it will take patience to get to that level of great return. Why I say this? When you look at individuals that have historically been successful over the years, most have said they have tried many avenues to get where they are at that moment, and they never gave up. Because they had a passion for what they did it allowed them to stay motivated to test different ways to achieve the level of success they gained. It’s all a process and you must accept that it is and be patient.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Camille Burthwright and I am the owner of Cheveux Luxury, an ecommerce website providing Hair Clip Ins (both Traditional and Halos), Ponytails, I-Tips, Tape Ins, Wigs, Cosmetics and Hair Products. We strive to have a wide variety of hair extensions of various hair textures ranging from European Straight to Afro Curly Hair Textures. I first fell in love with hair and all that it entails when I was 13 years old and accompanied my cousin to Beauty School in Jamaica. I was her model, so I would be in the theory classes with her learning about hair and its properties as well. The science of it all really fascinated me and left a lasting impression, so I always vowed to try and have it be incorporated into my life in some shape or form. I finally took the dive through the encouragement and push from my Spouse, he provided a gift of registering my business for Christmas, and I hit the ground running with it.
At my company, we mostly cater to the do-it-yourself individuals that prefer a quick option to achieve a glamorous style without having to spend hours at the salon. Our Hair Clip Ins, Ponytails and Customized wigs are extremely easy to install, and we have options to fit any style and preference that individual may have. Even though we mostly cater to the do-it-yourself crowd, we try to stay competitive and relevant with providing salon installation recommended hair extensions as well. These we mostly push to the salon owners and hairstylists to supply the hair which they can include in their services. The variety is mainly what I love that my company provides in that there is something for everyone!
How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
We sell our hair extensions on our website (www.cheveuxluxury.com). The pros and cons vary in my view. One of the pros is that you have a bit of control with the customization and look you would like to go for where your website is concerned. Another is that you can include various payment options such as buy now, pay later such as Sezzle and QuadPay, which we have, Paypal, etc. The main con is that traffic to the website is solely dependent on your efforts through either Paid Ads, SEO, Social Media Marketing, Affiliate Marketing, etc. If you don’t have a decent flow of traffic to the website through active and consistent promotions, then there will be almost no opportunities to make sales.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
So, we recently have been doing a lot of pop up shops and making more efforts to be out in the community. These efforts really have boosted our exposure and customer base. Coupled with the affiliate marketing that we have implemented, traffic on the website has increased which in turn increased our reach.
