Today we’d like to introduce you to Cari Woodward
Hi Cari, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I graduated with a manicurist certificate from a small beauty college in Indiana when I was 21 years old and I sure made the most of it! After 7 years at an Aveda concept salon and 2 years being a traveling OPI educator, I saved enough money to move to Las Vegas in 1999 for a fresh new start. I became the resident rock chick in the Rock Spa at the Hard Rock Hotel and later, the “manicurist in the window” at the now defunct Beauty Bar on Fremont St. (I have a lot of stories to tell!) I realized early on that I had a knack for listening to people and a lot of wisdom to share so I recently decided to get a life coaching certification to help my credibility and so I could feel that I was doing right by my clients. I’ve been 100% self employed for over 20 years by making people feel good about themselves and I am humbled by this privilege .
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My life in Indiana could be oppressive at times with insecure, controlling boyfriends and always being somewhat of a black sheep in my family. I didn’t have much support for my dreams and goals. Running away from it all was the best thing I could’ve done. When I moved to Las Vegas, everything became magical for me. It was like a red carpet rolled out everywhere I went for more than 5 years after leaving Indiana. That streak of great luck came to a screeching halt when the Hard Rock Hotel fired the director that hired me then sold their spa to a private owner who was personally threatened by my popularity. He eventually figured out a way to fire me too, then as timing would have it, 3 days later, I got into a car accident. I struggled physically and financially for a long time. Then just as suddenly, I received a lawsuit settlement check the exact same day I started a new part time job at the trendy Beauty Bar! It was as if everything got restored instantly, including my hope.
The only thing still missing in my life was that I really wanted to be married. I was so tired of doing everything by myself. After dozens of failed relationships, disastrous dating experiences and 18 years being mostly single, I finally found my life partner. It was no coincidence to me that he showed up in my life while I was right in the middle of attending life coaching academy. All the troubles I went through have made me uniquely qualified to coach women who are struggling with self-esteem and relationship problems. Through my faith in God, I now know that the only thing that can stop me is me and I have the potential inside me to flatten any speed bump in my way!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a manicurist, there are many things that set me apart from my peers. My training with Aveda in the 1990’s set me up for success in the beauty industry, boosted my sense of self-worth and also gave me a style niche before it was a thing. The way I stand out from others in my industry is that I provide customized, luxury, spa-level services with a focus on nail and skin health, which is a very different approach than “strip mall assembly line nails.” Also, many manicurists today only seem to care about doing obnoxious nail art designs as fast as possible while recording themselves on social media, often to the detriment of their clients safety and comfort. The result of my extended knowledge, experience and expertise is not only creating a pretty nail, but a healthy one…and a very relaxed client that actually feels cared about! Being self-employed, I’m able to provide such luxury, personalized service at a fraction of the price that you would pay at a high-end spa. Another thing that makes me anything but ordinary is that I’m interested in the science behind nail technology. I need to know how and why a product or technique works. I’m quite proud of the knowledge I have acquired about hair, skin and nails over my decades in the beauty industry. I often have clients say things like, “why hasn’t anyone ever explained that to me before?” Couple this with my life coaching experience and you’ll understand how I’m truly one of a kind!
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I’m a huge fan of Joel Osteen! His positive message of victory and hope inspires me and lifts my spirit daily.
My favorite books are Law of Attraction by Michael J Losier and Ask and It Is Given by Abraham Hicks, those were life changing for me!
I am also an advocate for women’s health. I follow and highly recommend lifestyle/healthcare products from Dr. Michelle Sands (Glow Natural Wellness), Dr. Anna Cabeca (The Girlfriend Doctor) and Dr. Christiane Northrup (Amata Life) for women over age 40.
