Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashleigh Abney
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I created a children’s book company called, Empower Books, to encourage children to know they have inner POWER! Within this company, I have published my own books called, “Girls Can!” and, “Mindful Me.” Each book offers a set of empowering actions, messages and tools that children can use to accomplish their dreams or return to calm. Since the start of the company in 2022, I have also started to help others publish their books as well. This is also fulfilling to me as I’m able to help others accomplish what might be a lifetime goal and publish their own book that will be part of their own personal legacy. As a mother of two young children, I see how adaptable, talented and amazing children are every day. I want each child to know they are strong and capable and that is why I created Empower Books. We are just getting started yet we have so much more to come!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’d call it more of an adventurous road. The new entrepreneur life can be like a game of ping pong – one day you’ve got everything figured out and the next day you’re wondering what you’re doing and why. I think the key is to be honest with yourself about what is working and what isn’t. For example, I noticed a repeating theme in my customer experience that I could not wrap my head around. In gathering more information, it opened my eyes to the need for a different approach for my new authors. Without spending time to figure this out, it could be a huge opportunity missed OR lead to continued frustration and energy consumed. Be flexible, always be ready to pivot and invest in yourself and your business for long term growth.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I create children’s books for both myself and for those who desire to become authors. I’m most proud of my service offering because it is something that will live on forever. It’s incredibly personal and special for those who create a book. What sets me apart is I’m also a certified personal coach, I’ve found a way to blend coaching elements into the newness and excitement of the process of creating a book. After our time together, you’ll have a book and a better understanding of yourself – two things that will improve your life – for the better!
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice would be to be open to where a journey is going to take you. When you’re starting a new business venture it’s really easy to only see things the way you envisioned. What I’ve learned is, an open mind and adaptability will help you create a sustainable company that solves a problem for customers. Also, hiring help is incredibly helpful to allow either a business coach, mentor or even a team member to come in and see where your blind spots and areas of opportunity are is also worth the investment.
