We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kate Englebrecht. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kate below.
Kate, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
As a young child in the 80’s I had all the toys. If you can think of it, I had it. My room would get messy playing with everything, like disaster-level messy, so my mother and I would spend Saturday mornings putting it back together. We’d put it back together and rearrange it every time so that it felt fresh and new. This always left me with a magical and loving feeling inside and that love and magic served me all through my schooling years and still serves me as an adult. When there was a huge assignment due I’d clean and tidy my room and rearrange it so that I could get motivated to do the assignment, otherwise, I’d feel lost, unmotivated, and uninspired.
With my clients I use these same tools and help them discover the things that bring love and magic to their living space so that they can feel motivated to keep it tidy and be inspired to live their dreams. I believe we are fluid and dynamic beings, and by moving furniture around and cleaning off surfaces this allows for the fresh and new feeling to be a constant in our homes, and it actually makes room for us to have a clear vision for how we truly want to live. Every time I help someone discover the magic of tidying up I watch them become more alive and excited to live in their space than they were before I arrived.
My mission is to help each one of my clients find the energy and inspiration to make their lives as joyful and attainable as they can imagine. The secret is to only keep the things that will support that life.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Kate Englebrecht, I’m a Colorado native, mother, homeowner, and I’ve owned my tidying business for 19 years. I got into professional organizing back in 2005 when I realized I wasn’t cut out for college or the mainstream level of success that I was experiencing back then. I sold my car, quit my job, and dropped out of college all at once and then my business took off like a rocket!
Fear can keep you from your purpose if you allow it, and so can your possessions.
I’m a Master KonMari Consultant and my company provides home-staging, packing and unpacking, and general organizing services. I help my clients make room in their minds so they can always find their things in their living space. When the clutter is removed, you can memorize where everything lives in your home and you can remember where to put it back when you’re finished using it. It’s like always knowing where your bed is and where you go every night when it’s time to sleep. I teach them how to choose a bed for all of their things.
I’m most proud of my ability to always gauge where my clients are at emotionally and physically when we are working together. Tidying up isn’t just about moving your stuff around. All of our things hold our precious energy and memories so it can get pretty overwhelming at times, especially if there has been a lot of grief and sadness in the home. When I see a client is at their tipping point, I suggest to them that we take a break and tend to something else so as to get their bodies and minds to relax. Usually after a redirect like this they are then able to keep moving forward.
I don’t force anyone to get rid of anything. I won’t even give my opinion on what they should keep. I’m just a helper and I stand by as my clients listen to their intuition on what to keep and what to let go. If they defer to me for advice I simply give them options to consider and they ultimately make the decision by comparing what to keep based on what they truly want. It becomes very easy and they fall in love with the process very quickly.
My belief is that our purpose for being here on this planet is to discover and experience joy and this is what I want for my clients.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’m actually in the middle of a life and career pivot right now. I’ve worked in this industry for 19 years and I’m actually a painter and writer at heart. I’ve taken my advice and I’m getting rid of most of my possessions. My home is for sale and I hope to be in New Mexico by Spring 2025 to see if I can manifest this new dream of mine.
It feels like I’ve experienced all that I can and now it’s time to let things go to make room for the new me.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I always treated my clients like they were my bffs and I never made them feel judged or obligated them into getting rid of their things. They referred my business to the people they knew which then built my confidence and it made me realize that I have something special to offer which really is just communication and being dependable. Sorry for the long sentence but it’s your belief in yourself, product, or business that is the driving force behind your success. It took me ten years to realize that it’s you. You’re your brand. The thing or service you sell is just a thing or service. It’s your energy, expertise, and authenticity that people really want.
