We were lucky to catch up with Faryan Jalalabadi Md recently and have shared our conversation below.
Faryan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Over the course of your career, have you seen or experienced your field completely flip-flop or change course on something?
The Aesthetic Industry has long lured patients in for “simple refresher” treatments to their face. Few, if any, providers ever acknowledged the risk of long-term complications that can arise years later. Some of these complications potentially being permanent or very difficult to treat. The industry is now waking up to the consequences of these “little” procedures as plastic surgeons, such as myself, who focus on facial aging have begun to sound the alarm. A wave of complications from injections decades prior have begun to show. Hyaluronic Acid FiIller that was thought to be completely dissolvable has proven to basically last forever and create issues of chronic inflammation, lymphatic obstruction, visible lumps with blue discoloration. A much more natural and well tolerated alternative is Fat Transfer. Healthy, youthful volume can be added to the face with an in-office procedure done awake using your own bodies tissue – this minimizes risk of complications in the short and long term when compared to using foreign objects.
Promises of “skin and tissue tightening” devices as a “facelift alternatives” are falling short and creating issues of their own. Too often, the fat that gives your face healthy volume is inadvertently melted by the heat. This contributes to worsened laxity of the face and hollowness – the opposite of what you were trying to achieve.. and it is only correctable by facelifting and volumizing with fat transfers.
Many of these “little refresher” procedures, including “collagen bio-stimulators” are making futures facelifts more challenging for surgeons to perform and increasing surgical risks for patients.
There is a new educational push to consider facelift surgery at younger ages (in the late 30s and 40s) if real tissue laxity is present instead of wasting money on less effective, less natural, more damaging alternatives. Facelifting, fat transfers, lasers, toxin and heatless microneedles are the most natural and effective way to reset your facial anatomy back to its youthful place. Don’t be bedazzled by fancy new technology!

Faryan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Faryan Jalalabadi, MD and I am a plastic surgeon with a particular focus on aging. I have always been fascinated by facial expressions, what makes us vibrant, attractive and youthful. Human anatomy is my favorite thing in world and it was a privilege to have trained at some of the greatest medical establishments in the world. I grew up in Houston, Texas – home to the largest medical center in the World. I moved to Los Angeles, California at the very end of my surgical training to complete one of the greatest Aesthetic Fellowships in the world. It was here in Beverly Hills, that I honed my craft and dove into the complete science and art of treating and reversing signs of aging.
My practice empowers patients to understand aging, and teach them what lifestyle choices and in office procedures can be done to slow it down and what surgical procedures can reverse them (while keeping them looking like their natural selves!)

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Unadulterated honesty and transparency. So many industries are cluttered with smoke in mirror marketing gimmicks that lure people in. As awareness of this grows through exposure on social media, people are craving being told straight up how it is. Surprisingly, not many providers do this. Potentially for fear of losing cliental or not “making the sale.” I’ve been thanked countless times for “keeping it real and transparent” and it has attracted countless realistic and level-headed patients into my practice – for which I am grateful for!

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Curiosity. I firmly believe no matter the craft, the true masters got there because of a burning desire to have a deep understanding of their art/science/skill/service. It makes learning fluid and easy. It make for good judgment. With it, you can see things others cannot. Without it, one can never truly be their best.
