We were lucky to catch up with Brooke Hutto recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Brooke thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents Are and have always been my #1 supporters. All my life they have supported me by pushing me to excel in everything I do. Every summer my dad would have me help him clean and paint apartments. He would pay me every Friday and taught me how to use my money. He taught me to be proud of my work and how to have a good work ethic. My parents have always told me how proud they are of me and how much they love me. But, my parents have always been honest with me about my work and decisions. I know I can always count on them. They are the reason behind my success.
Brooke, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Brooke Hutto and I am the owner of Beauty By Brooke. I started doing hair as an assistant in 2015 and fell in love with the beauty industry. My friends and family were always asking me to do their hair and makeup, so I decided to make a career out of it! It took me a little over a year to get my license at the Georgia Institute of Cosmetology. Once I had my license I immediately started offering deals and discounts to get clients in my chair. Once I started building my clientele, I started getting referrals and just built from there. I offer services ranging from simple haircuts to hair color services and keratin treatments! Doing hair was never about making money. It’s a career that I truly love what I do. It’s a hobby for me. I’m not the type of stylist who charges for every service. All of my services usually come as a package deal. My favorite thing about doing hair sometimes isn’t even the hair itself. I meet so many new people every day. They come in and tell me their life stories. We laugh, we cry, and sometimes we just vent to each other. Doing hair creates a bond with your clients that no other profession creates.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
To start my business I had to make a small investment out of my savings account. Within the first 2 months, I had already made my money back and then some! Sometimes it just takes a leap of faith and some financial skills.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I started my Facebook page and Instagram a couple years ago and just tried to post daily. The key to social media is consistency. I run promotions on social media by having contests and have my clients share my social media. I also give discounts to clients who leave me reviews and share my social media! I also advise my clients to post on their own social media and tag my business pages to their posts.
