We recently connected with Amy Baez and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Amy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry.
One of the biggest trends in interior design right now is the focus on sustainability and eco-conscious materials. Homeowners are gravitating toward natural, durable elements like reclaimed wood, recycled glass, and organic fabrics. Another trend is the rise of bold, expressive spaces featuring statement pieces, rich colors, and unique textures. We’re also seeing a blend of styles, like traditional design paired with modern touches, creating timeless yet fresh interiors. Lastly, multifunctional spaces have become a priority, with design solutions that accommodate work, relaxation, and entertaining within the same home.
Amy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Amy Baez, owner of Amy Baez Interiors, a boutique residential interior design studio committed to designing better lives through intentional design. Since launching my business in Austin, Texas, in 2009 and relocating to Bay Area Houston in 2021, I’ve been passionate about creating spaces that are both beautiful and functional. My studio takes on only a few clients at a time, allowing me to provide highly personalized service and focus on every detail to ensure an exceptional experience.
At Amy Baez Interiors, my mission is to design better lives with intentional design. I provide full-service interior design, including space planning, color consultations, custom furnishings, and seasonal decorating. My vision is to serve clients with exceptional design services, remain relevant in their lives, and build lifelong relationships. What sets me apart is The Design with Intention Experience, where thoughtful designs meet high-quality materials, creating spaces that are timeless and meaningful.
I am guided by my values: a passion for design, leading with expertise, collaborating for the best outcomes, and staying focused on results. I also hold strong beliefs about sustainability. I believe in “buying once and buying well” to reduce the demand for disposable furnishings and minimize waste. I educate my clients on the importance of investing in quality pieces and sourcing the best materials they can afford, often incorporating vintage and antique finds to add character and longevity to their spaces.
Through my work, I aim to blend timeless design with functionality while helping clients make sustainable, value-driven choices. Whether transforming a home or creating a welcoming seasonal look, my ultimate goal is to enhance lives with intentional and impactful design.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I moved from Austin to Houston, I faced a pivotal moment in my career. My business, which had been well-established in Austin, had to adapt to a new market and community. Relocating after the pandemic added another layer of complexity, as the world was adjusting to new ways of living and working. I shifted my focus to building relationships in Bay Area Houston while refining my offerings to better meet the needs of my new clientele.
This transition also gave me the opportunity to explore what truly mattered to me and my clients: creating spaces that feel intentional, functional, and personal. I leaned into my boutique approach, taking on fewer clients to provide an elevated, one-on-one experience. This pivot allowed me to connect with my clients on a deeper level, ultimately shaping the unique vision and values of Amy Baez Interiors as it stands today.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Referrals have been the most valuable source of new clients for me because they’re built on trust and relationships. When a past client or someone in my network recommends my services, it reflects the meaningful connections I’ve built through my work. These referrals often lead to projects where clients already feel confident in my ability to bring their vision to life, creating a strong foundation for collaboration. Google has also been a key tool, helping me reach clients who are actively seeking interior design expertise and are drawn to my style and values. Together, these sources allow me to connect with clients who appreciate thoughtful, intentional design and want a personalized experience.
