We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dr. Phyllis Pobee a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Dr. Phyllis thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’re complete cheeseballs and so we love asking folks to share the most heartwarming moment from their career – do you have a touching moment you can share with us?
Lisa was a busy corporate director and a mother of two. She came to me feeling defeated, overwhelmed, and invisible, convinced her body was working against her. She had tried everything—strict diets, endless cardio, and even weight loss medications—but nothing seemed to stick. Her frustration was palpable, and her hope was hanging by a thread.
During her GeneLean360° consultation, we dug deep into her health history, symptoms, and genetics. What we uncovered was a genetic variation that impacted her metabolism and hunger hormones—something no other program had addressed. For Lisa, it wasn’t about willpower; her body simply needed a plan tailored to her unique biology.
When we started her personalized plan, something shifted. For the first time, she felt understood. We focused on repairing her metabolism, stabilizing her energy, and eliminating her cravings—all without deprivation. Week by week, she began shedding the weight that had held her back for so long. But it wasn’t just about the pounds. Lisa started rediscovering herself.
One day, she sent me a video of herself running around with her kids at the park, laughing and carefree. The caption read, “For the first time in years, I don’t feel like I’m sitting on the sidelines of my own life. I feel alive again.”
That moment hit me hard. Watching her reclaim her joy and confidence was a reminder of why I do this work. It wasn’t just about the number on the scale; it was about giving someone their life back.
Lisa’s story reminds me that every woman deserves to feel seen, heard, and empowered—and that with the right tools, transformation is always possible.

Dr. Phyllis, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Dr. Phyllis Pobee, a triple-board certified physician specialized in genetic weight loss. As the founder of GeneLean360°, I help women over 30 achieve sustainable weight loss through personalized, science-backed strategies. My work is deeply inspired by my own 100-pound weight loss journey, where I discovered that genetics—not willpower—held the missing piece to overcoming my weight loss struggles.
Through GeneLean360° (genelean360.com), I offer a 3-step program that integrates genetic testing, personalized nutrition, and mindset coaching. My clients don’t just lose weight; they heal their metabolism, release stubborn cravings, and revive their energy without restrictive diets or harmful medications. We’re not just about weight loss—we’re about creating life-changing breakthroughs that empower women to rediscover their confidence and purpose.
What sets me apart is my focus on science and compassion. Unlike one-size-fits-all programs, I tailor every plan to each client’s unique genetic blueprint. This precision allows us to target root causes like hormonal imbalances, metabolic inefficiencies, and even cellular damage. My clients finally feel seen, understood, and supported in a way that transforms their entire lives.
I’m most proud of the lives I’ve helped transform. Every client success story is a reminder of why I started this work. Women who once felt hopeless and invisible now feel strong, vibrant, and unstoppable. I want people to know that sustainable weight loss is possible without deprivation, punishment, or shame. At GeneLean360°, we create a space where women can awaken to their best selves and achieve results that last.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Authenticity has been the cornerstone of my growth. Sharing my personal story—vulnerably and honestly—has allowed me to connect deeply with my audience. I focus on educating and empowering my community through virtual events, social media, and previews of my upcoming book, Lean Genes: A Physician’s Guide to Genetic Weight Loss for Women Over 30 Without Drugs or Surgery, set to release in early 2025. By showing women what’s possible and equipping them with science-backed tools to succeed, I’ve built trust and created a movement of transformation that is both empowering and life-changing.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
My journey of resilience wasn’t defined by one moment—it was shaped by a series of pivotal moments that tested me and forced me to rise stronger each time.
One of those moments came early in my weight loss journey. I vividly remember trying a liquid-only diet, convinced that this extreme approach was my only way to finally lose the weight. I did lose pounds quickly, but it came at a steep cost—my energy plummeted, I felt weak, and I even lost muscle mass. When I stopped the diet, the weight came rushing back, leaving me feeling more defeated than ever.
Another moment was the night I sat in my car after a long, exhausting day, eating fast food in secret because I was too ashamed to admit how much I was struggling. That evening, I remember thinking, “Why can’t I figure this out? Why is this so hard for me?” The despair was overwhelming, but somewhere in the back of my mind, I still held onto a sliver of hope.
And then there was the moment I found myself deep in research, learning about genetics and metabolism. It was like a light bulb finally went off: my struggles weren’t about willpower or failure—they were about how my body was wired. That realization was both empowering and daunting. I had to unlearn years of misinformation and rebuild my understanding of health from the ground up.
Each of these moments—and so many more—taught me something critical about resilience. It wasn’t about getting it right the first time or never falling down. It was about refusing to stay down, learning from every setback, and showing up for myself again and again.
That same resilience is what I now pass on to the women I work with. Transformation isn’t a straight path—it’s a series of choices to keep moving forward, no matter how many times you’ve had to start over. And I’m living proof that it’s worth it.
